I have the Gigabyte Geforce 1070 Windforce with 8GB of RAM that I got for Christmas last year and I've been pretty happy with it. I've been looking at getting another one or similar 1070 for my brother, but when I check out prices online I'm seeing $450 to $500. I could have sworn when I bought it I paid around $350 and got a free game.

Why would the price be higher now? Is there a sudden run of graphics cards? Is there a shortage of materials used? I thought by now the 1070 would be a generation old it would have gone way down in price and there'd be something new on the horizon.

Its a combination of coin mining industry + ram price increase.

All the rx cards and less than 1080 pascals have been sent to the crypto-mines to work until death by exhaustion.

May lord GabeN have mercy on their souls.

just a rumour, but yeesh things are not looking good for the gpu industry imo. If gpu had longer warranty's I wouldn't mind the higher price. I could have sworn back when I first built my pc in 2009, gpus had life time warranty.

I bought 2 1070 FTWs for like $350 each last year. I just sold them on eBay for almost $100 more than msrp. The thirst for midrange GPUs is real

This. a bad time buying GPU.

I'd go and buy him a 2nd hand 980Ti which is about the same power as 1070.

@PredatorRules: I had no idea there was so much demand for graphics card from the coin mining industry.

We don't buy new equipment very often so this is a real shame. I'll take a look at the 980Ti
