I'm getting a boxed gaming computer that will have Vista. Should I downgrade it back to XP? When Vista is fully optional can I upgrade it back to Vista?

Btw is Vista good for games that are played on XP when I have a 8800 GTS/GTX?

Save yourself the money and just go with Vista. The problems with some games are being fixed rapidly so if you do have a problem with something you won't have to wait long.

U might want to check out nVidia latest driver as I heard that they have a bit of a problem for 8800 series gcard in Vista.
Oh, bythe way, if you want to play games on Vista, i recommend you take at least 2GB of ram. I use vista. At idle, they take up about 524MB of ram, at IDLE. So when you load up the antivirus, antispyware, widgets, etc.. it wont left much for your games... just a thought.

Take into consideration the version of vista you are using too. Get the 64-bit version if your cpu support it. Of course its a no brainer that getting Vista Ultimate edition is every gamers dream. Mine is only the Home Premium at home and Business at office.

If you're building a new rig, just go with Vista....  Most of the people that complain about it have only tried the early RC builds or just didn't spend much time with it at all.    Since you're going to have a DX10 card, Vista is the obvious choice to get the most out of it.

If you have your old XP install cd, and you have lots of old games you wanna play, a dual boot might not be a bad idea. Tho I I'm not sure how Vista reacts if you wanna install XP after you have Vista already installed, but if possible it's the best option IMO. That being said I would think a 8800 can run most games despite the bad drivers atm, of course there might be some games that just refuse to work.

oh, dont worry about the dual boot thing. I got the dual boot setup at home. (3 boot actually if u count my PCLinuxOS)
So far it works fine. I dual/triple boot it with Windows XP Pro, PCLinuxOS, Vista Home Premium, but all from different partition of course...

Yes that is very annoying, XP hardly ever did that.  Otherwise I have Vista Ultimate and it's fine for me, although as far as gaming's concerned I have a GeForce 6200LE Turbocache, an Athlon 64 4000+ and 2GB of Ram not the best solution, although hoping to get an 8800GTX soon.
