Is it worth it to go DDR3 now? Or should I save my money and go with DDR2 memory?

I'm gonna get an ASUS motherboard that supports eather DDR3 or DDR2 depending on your answers, but my other question is, which should I go for Asus that supports SLi or Asus that supports Crossfire?

Yes I have DDR2 already, is it worth going to DDR3? I'm buying a new mobo and was wondering if I should buy a mobo that supports DDR3.

Do you really have to buy a new motherboard? What's wrong with this one? If it's only to switch to DDR3 i say it's not worth it since you already have 4gbs of RAM.

Because he still has a motherboard that came with his hp, and the bios is locked. I think you should keep your ddr2 until ddr3 becomes a must.

Hang onto that rig for a while, in about 1-2 years you can build from scratch.

Do you plan on upgrading to an I7 proc when they come out? If you do, then you should probably keep your ddr2 ram. If you plan on OCing your quad or uying a better processor 775 processor then i think you should go with some good ddr3 ram. It's not as expensive as it used to be and the latencies are dropping a lot.

This is exactly the reason I am doing this "Upgrade" my cheap a** mobo is locked and I cant overclock my CPU I am planning to buy JUST the following: a new mobo, Thermaltake CL-P0401 V1 CPU Cooler, and the Antec Nine Hundred, hence all these new items will not fit my current case. I have the CPU, RAM, Hard Drive. What do you think?

Intel said in November, but they will most likely be hella expensive and not that much better than the latest quads etc. I personnaly went with DDR3 when i changed my mobo/cpu/ram because a friend of mind sold me 2gbs of corsair 1333mhz. I'm buying 2gbs of patriot viper 1600mhz 7 7 7 18 which i plan on OCing to 1800mhz, for $200CAD. For around 350$ you can get 4gbs of very good ram.

Well the spec in my sig is the ocmputer I want, Let's just say it's my goal PC the only thing stopping me is the overclocking! How sad is that? And I am feeling that inside me computer is really messy. things will probably change when I get the Antech 900?

Get the 1200, the antec 900 is actually quite small. If i were you i would really invest some more money into a 1200, youre probably going to keep that case for years, it's pretty much almost perfect.

Are you getting an intel or nvidia mobo? It matters because of the fsb ratios with the ram and all. You have to plan that.

I'm getting one of ASUS's mobo's CLICK HERE. I haven't chose a motherboard yet I'm really confused on which mobo I should buy. I wanna leave that to the PRO's like you guys helping me out right now, which do you think will be the best out of all the mobos in the link provided? I really cant spend more then $250 for the mobo thanks a lot!

i dont see the point in spending too much on a high end mobo unless you have water cooling and are trying to hit 4ghz with the q6600 any p35 or p45 mobo will do 400fsb easy thats 3.6ghz on the q6600

If you want to OC your q6600, you could look into a maximus formula 2, it overlocks very easily. It;s 311$ on the site you mentioned earlier.

This maybe a very stupid question but, is FSB important in OCing the CPU? Like the normal FSB on the Q6600 is 1066 isnt it? So lets pretend that I got a new mobo that supports 1600 would I be able to OC the FSP of the Q6600 and OC it onto a higher clock speed?

stock fsb will be set on the mobo for the q6600 will be 266 which is 1066mhz and 400 is 1600mhz the cpu will run at 3.6ghz

Should I just buy a mobo with the highest FSP (1600) supported? whats the risk of overclocking the CPU, will I be risking burning out my computer?

You will most likely not got higher than 400fsb on a q6600 si quads have high multipliers. You also have to take into account that you must match the speed of your ram with your fsb.

best thing todo is look at some oc guides every motherboard is diffrent if you mess with voltages too much you could burn your whole pc but you will have to mess around with voltage so look for some guides on how to oc the mobo your getting

go for a mobo with 1333mhz fsb thats p35 or p45 they are very good overclockers msi or dfi etc

All right, not that I have chosen my Motherboard (Asus P5Q Deluxe Socket 775 Intel P45) has anyone ever tried overclocking a Q6600 with this mobo to 3.4GHz? what will I need to raise? Ill raise the FSB to 400, the voltage to 1.4? And the clock to 3.4, would that be how easy it is to overclock this?

My CPU is a G0. So what I should do is 400FSB multiplier on 8x not 9x the north bridge volt will be 1.5 and cpu will be around 1.4 volt, what if I put the multiplier to 9x?And really the Asus P5N-T Deluxe sucks!??! I was leaning towards that one.

Okay so 3.2 it is, can you tell me what I should put when I attempt to OC my CPU for the first time? example: FSB 400, Northbridge 1.5? what else am I missing, I have to write this down on a piece of paper so I don't forget it lol.

Your setup is already great for gaming. I don't see how it can get any better by going DDR3. You're probably OCD like me.. and I'll tell you first hand, DDR3 did nothing for me. I actually switched from DDR3 to DDR2, and saved myself a lot of money. I suggest you do the same.
