Is GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R any good? Is it great? I'm planning to replace my motherboard Intel DG33FB with this. I won't use SLI or Crossfire and have no plan to in the future. I will be getting an 8800 GTS 320. I'm attracted to this motherboard because it supports both DDR2 and DDR3 and future 45 nm processors so it would be more future proof. I would also like to overclock my Core 2 Duo E6550.

Forget DDR3,it'll be useless for a LONG time (At least 3 years) by then you'll probably be ready for new rig and just get the P35-DS3L for much cheaper.

Either way,both are good OCers.

You mean ~1year?
DDR3 prices should be worth it, price/performance, near the end of 2008.

DDR3 is only like 5-10% better than DDR2 performance-wise,and i highly doubt that 2GB of DDR3 under $100 could be had THAT soon...

Who said under $100?
Under $200? Definitely. Around $100? Most likely.
DDR2 offered more or less the same increase in performance over DDR...
Also let's not forget the DDR2 price hike, that completely puts things out of perspective for some people.

It's not about it being better or not, it's about it being the standard - we didn't need the extra bandwidth offered by PCI-e when it came out, nor did we need SATA 3.0GB/s, or even DDR2, to be quire honest. But when they get adopted by all the major manufacturers out there, they will be the standard. Since Intel's X38 chipset and subsequent chipsets will be mainly DDR3, and AMD's upcoming AM3 platform will also be AM3, anyone building a computer late next year will be using DDR3, or at least using a DDR3-capable motherboard with DDR2 slots.

I got the motherboard and I love it. Overclocks easy, and it's great for the price (under $100 right?). Have no issue with the board whatsoever. SOLID. As for adopting DDR3 in the future, that's probably a mute point. You're probably going to want to upgrade your CPU by the time DDR3 is a real alternative, which means you'll need a new motherboard anyway. But hey, that's why you're getting a good value motherboard!

GIGABYTE is a good company. I got a really good/cheap motherboard from then and its been running without problems for about 3months now. Its FSB is stable at about 1400mhz I believe (no overheating on chipset). Right now DDR3 has one RAM that would actually be usefull (1333mhz). The rest are too high for current mobos and all you'd be doing is wasting $$$ (I believe they go up to 1800mhz). Still the 1333mhz would be quite poor because chances are its too fast for your CPU and will only be usefull for loading times unless you overclock.
