Intel Core i7 920 is cheaper and easily overclocks past the 950's stock speeds.

I'm going to do the correct non-stupid way.

You'll get a 800 buck PC and 1200 dollars worth of games.

Yeah Jiggly is gonna buy himself one of those nice chocolate covered 5870's and enjoy every single drop of caramel eye candy inside. Damn right! Oh hey Jiggly I couldn't help but notice the significance of your username. Does that mean that you are Santa and you'll get me one of those 5850's (the more affordable one lol) for Christmas? I'd certainly like that! LMAO!

- AMD Phenom II X4 955 OC to a stable 3.6Ghz - Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer CPU cooler - Arctic Cooling MX-2 - AM3 Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P - 3 x 2GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 1333Mhz - 2x WD caviar black 500GB 32MB cache HDD (raid 0 - speed) - OCZ ModXStream 700w PSU - Coolermaster Storm Scout - 2x Sony Optiarc 24x DVD-RW Lightscribe (2 for directing copying) - Windows 7 ultimate 64 OS (when available) - ATI HD 5870 (when available) You wont need anything more than that, I dont know the price but it should be less than 2000USD. Seeing as this is a gaming forum/website Im sure you know what to do with the rest of the money. You could also fit in a Samsung T220, Razor DeathAdder and a Saitek Eclipse II with that budget... I know thats what Im doing :D. Thats also the system Im building as soon as the GPU and OS are released. Going to be quite a step up from a Core 2 Duo E4400(OC2.8Ghz), 2GB OCZ RAM and an 8800GTS (320MB ver).

Not bad as well. This(excluding the OS)or the rig above. Also, dump that PSU, he doesn't need that much power.

Should I switch with the 850W one? The only reason I chose that one is 'cause it has the GOLD efficiency rating.

Well he could save some money then and get something else he needs. Also, please exclude the OS from the price as many people don't include it in their rigs.

Agreed it is a great system... untill you look at the price, really I dont know what people do with these systems since you can play the same games on the same resolutions and settings as a system that will cost around 1200USD mainly because it will have the same card/cards and that system doesn't even include one.

570 for a mother board... spend that on the card and get a motherboard for 200 and see what happens. It may cost 1/3 more but it wont give it a 1/3 more performance if you dont know what your doing.

don't hate 'cause I gave the guy almost exactly what he wanted. Its agreed that you can make a damn good AMDPIIX4-955, but he specifically said he wanted the best motherboard and this(or the non-water-cooled one) is the best one.

No I know I just find it hard not to talk people out of spending money on setups that aren't justified. Im sorry If I came of as offensive in any way.

That's still too much for an 850 watt Power Supply. I'd say get the Corsair 750HX power supply instead.

yeah, but its got the GOLD rating: and aside from costing him more money(which he already has), its gonna give him bragging rights and a lower energy bill.

i wish i had that budget.

btw, to above posters, 2000 is a lot to spend on a computer, but when you start adding in things like solid state drives, monitor, gaming headphones, blu ray drive, 2000 doesnt seem like that much (especially with dollars). i guess i slightly regret skimping a bit on my computer, ive had to replace my psu which was annoying. and my mobo isnt the best, p5q pro, only has 8x crossfire, which isnt a big deal, but i think its worth spending extra so that you dont have to worry about your pc failing or whatever, and can spend more time ocing or gaming etc

If your spending $2000 you might as well get a top of the line keyboard, mouse, speakers and headset. On top of that A i7, an ssd and of course the Corsair Obsidian Case. The best case in the world.

i usually go by this rule : 1. get the best single gpu you can, dont get SLI. too expensive and not efficient enough. you can get the next gen or 2 gen best single slot when they come out and be better off than blowing a lot of money on 2 of the best singles. ( trust me , i got two 9800gtx's, i wont ever again, not that SLI dosnt work, but it wasnt worth the money) 2. well you should jst get the intel i7 920. its such a good price, not worth getting the higher models 3. get a 200-300 dollar mobo. a good one goes a long way. 4. go to one of those psu websites and find out what you need for power, then get 100-150 watts over that to future proof and to be safe. get a PSU that has a good name, dont skimp out here. not a good idea. 5. get a big case. antec is pretty much the best, a antec psu would be a good combo here since you know itll fit perfectly in your case. 6. 4 or 6 or 8 ( whatever ) gigs of corsair or the other top company's ram... u dont need high end ram, just get the well priced stuff, you shouldnt spend more than 70 bucks on ram 7. western digital new black hard drive 8. get a creative sound card, not too expensive, but they really do make your sound quality better, EAX is cool and it takes load off the cpu and mobo .. yay. 9. thats it.

I think you guys over-estimate $2000 when you choose an i7-920($280) with the best motherboard($570), $205 worth of RAM, and a ATI-5870($400).

Agreed with it all except for 5, since the money is there I would go for the new full tower Corsair 800D and a 750w Corsair powersupply because you know it will fit :P. Seriously find the right componants isnt hard at all especialy if you have 2000USD at your disposal, I usualy try to convince people to go cheaper and sacrifice minimal performance but again seeing as though money isnt a problem I agree and the i7 920 is a better option.

Yes the Corsair 800D is a must. And i'd go with the 1000W Corsair Modular Psu, it's $220.

Dude...

Motherboard - EVGA 141-BL-E769-A1 - $570 ('cause he specifically said he wanted the best motherboard)
Processor - i7 920 - $280
RAM memory - mushkin 6GB DDR3 1600 - $205
Video Card - ATI Radeon 5870 - $400 (or higher)

So far that's $1455, you try getting what you suggest with the $545 that's left.

Hey come on Smc be nice to my friend RedXSniper there. I know we've been arguing a lot lately but let's try to be as nice to each other as possible. Yeah I know RedXSniper is getting a bit carried away there but he's got the right idea (name brand power supply, plenty of wattage) however that one is a bit expensive I agree.

I didn't call him a "Corsair fanboy"(as weird as that'd be); I don't think I was being mean.

Ok sorry perhaps I got the wrong idea.

Well, thanks to everyone for taking time here =] umm looking entire posts, I would rather decide to go with smc91352's formula but with several changes since some of the parts aren't available in my country(asia but not in the continent) and I have no experience with online buying yet. You still may judge the following changed formula btw: Proccessor - i7 920 - $280 Motherboard - EVGA 141-BL-E760-A1 (DDR3 1600) - $370 ---> MSI eclipse plus / Asus Rampage II (EVGA never officially sold here) RAM memory - mushkin 6GB DDR3 1600 Triple - $205 ---> Equivalent Corsair (Mushkins are hard to find here) Video Card - WAIT FOR ATI's NEW CARDS---> a GTX275 should be enough to play all available games Hard Drive - Seagate 1TB 7200.12 - $90 ---> what about a lesser capacitated WD velociraptor or ssd? Optical Drive - Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe - $34 Power Supply - OCZZ1000M - $300 ---> never heard of that brand so I pick an alternative of corsair's Case - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 - $140 Operating System - Vista 64 Ultimate w/ W7 upg. - $190 ---> no need to buy , I already have it downloaded freely from MSDN Subtotal - $1609(but you still need to add Video card cost) ---> I don't know what the cost would be so help me estimate the cost coz I can't pay more than $2000 Thanks =)
