Overrated rip from Ayd Rand's novels.

GLaDOS is where its at. As much as I love SHODAN, GLaDOS just takes the cake...

Wow... ok. I need to ask this. If this Rand person wrote the story that the game is based on, how can you call the antagonist a "rip" from the novels.... when everything else is too?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayn_rand

My wording was incorrect. Many of the elements in BioShock, not just story but some themes are based off of Ayn Rand's novels. They are not "copied" but "based off of." Atlas's personality, from what I gather about Rand's novels, is pretty much taken straight from them. But I am no Rand specialist though.

Even if we wouldn't take into consideration Atlas's originality, he as a character is quite vague and underdeveloped. Sure, you get the twist but "the twist" is so popular these days.

There is no "twist" with GLaDOS, she is just an extremely unique and entertaining character.

Ayn Rand's theology and books are the basis behind the Bioshock undertones and theme

SPOILER, best quote ever ----> "Didn't we have some fun, though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and i said : Goodbye! And you were like : NO WAY. And then i was all : We pretended we were going to murder you. That was great."

Glados had much more humor. :( I'm a sucker for humor. Shodan's right up there, though.

Glados: ".. the only thing you broke, was my heart"

It's really funny how such a murderous cake loving AI can be so sweat and humorous at the same time :P

Glados, for this quote:
"Well done, android. The Enrichment Center once again reminds you that android hell is a real place where you will be sent at the first sign of defiance."

Indeed, consider her a 'warning from history' http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=125971

I prefer Shodan to Glados though, glados had some funny parts and a unpredicatble personality but Shodan was cunning and seemed more worthy an adversary, but not as funny.

In my talons, I shape clay, crafting lifeforms as I please.
Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel.
For my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of earth.
My whims will become lighting bolts that devastate the mounds of humanity.
Out of the chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy.
I am drunk with this vision.
God, the title suits me well.

-Shodan, System Shock 1

writing like that ends this debate . . . i do enjoy Glados, but Shodan was cold, calculated, and thought herself a goddess. Glados didn't have much revealed motivation or purpose other than the tests.

Don't bother dude, Valve fanboys (most of which never played SS2) don't care.
