It's already bad enough that most retail stores have shrunk their PC gaming selection. Gamestop barely even sells PC games now. Today I tried to buy an 8800 video card and Best Buy didn't even sell that model! Best Buy used to always carry the highest end video cards -- at least a few of them. It's also bad enough that I have to play all these toned down, poor control, slower shooters that were designed simultaneously for a console.

But check out the pics for Civilization's console version. These on platforms such as the 360 and PS3 which supposedly have the power to match PC gaming these days. What a dumbed down, simplistic version of Civilization. It's like playing the mobile phone version.

I really hope this is not the future of gaming. There are some good exclusives on the consoles but I hope the Halo, Civilization Revolution, and Deus Ex 2s of the world are not what we will face with the future of PC gaming. There's an attitude, open mod community, and love of complexity in PC gaming that console gamers will never understand. :(

Indeed... Bestbuy doesn't really have a good going price for their items.

Totes. Best Buy is one of the last places you should buy a pc. It's best to build your own. Newegg and Tigerdirect are great. If there's a smaller local shop near you, usually they're pretty cool with telling you what you'll need to build your own pc. Basically, you can tell them what you want, and they'll tell you what components you need. It's your choice whether you want to purchase those components from them or not. Don't purchase pcs from Best Buy or other big companies. In my experience, don't buy anything that's proprietary...like HP/Compaq or Dell.

Listen, PC games will always be more popular with the more hardcore gamers and consoles with the less hardcore gamers. That's how it's always been that's how it will stay. PC gaming will never go away, it may have slowed down slightly since the next gen consoles came out but trust me, within the next year there are gonna be some boss PC titles.

This thread is about as original and interesting as one titled "wow Crysis looks awesome!" or "Rate my new system" or "your top 10 favorite games of all time?"...

First off, best Buy is a horrible place to buy PC hardware. I also can't remember a single time when I walked into a Best Buy and saw anything better thanmidrange/budget cardseither, so I'm not sure when it was that they had "the highest end video cards" but I definitely wasn't around. Last time I checked the best they had was an AGP Radeon x1650...

Second, what shooters are you playing? The only recent major FPS I can think of that was developed for the consoles at the same time was Bioshock, and from what I've experienced it's not slow, nor have I found the quality of the control scheme to be lacking.

Third, are you trying to insult the graphics of Civ Revolution, or are you somehow attempting to say thatthe gameplay'sbeen dumbed down by looking at a screenshot? The graphics look good, and it continues the simple but effective art style of the rest of the series. As far as the gameplay goes; It's a screenshot. It looks pretty similar to every other civ game ever made. The menus and toolbars are a bit more colorful, but it all looks pretty similar. How you can make predictions as to the quality of the game is beyond me, simply because time-travel hasn't been figured out yet. will it be less in-depth? yes, it's a console strategy game, it's inevitable. will it be horrible? who knows, the game is still a long way from release.

also, please for the love of god can westop using the fact that games are made on PC's as an argument that supports PC gaming. Am I the only person who realizes that saying "PC gaming will never die because games are made on PC's" doesn't actually prove anything other than the fact that you don't know what you're talking about? the ability to create a game has absolutely nothing to do with playing games. look at the computers used to make games; They're workstations that can't handle games very well. Just because a car comes off an assembly line doesn't mean that you can drive the assembly line home. Games have to be optimized for the PC just like they have to be optimized for consoles, developers have to do more work to optimize for PC's to account for all the different hardware configurations possible.

Best Buy isn't the best place to buy really.

I remember back in 2004, they were selling BFG 5500FX for 175$! That's insane, I could get that card on eBay for less than $100 at that time.

Firstly, what in the world are you doing trying to buy a GPU at Bestbuy? Their prices are so inflated its disgusting but thats another story. I totally agree about the PC game sections in stores. Its sad to see such an awesome and powerful platform being shrunk down.

I wouldn't worry about a Sid Meier game. Any developer that puts his own name as bigger than the title of the game on the box deserves to crash and burn by going the way of the conlol.

PC gaming will never die. It featurest things you cant find in consoles, like RTS and FPS imo.

Look at it in any way you want, there are as many releases for the PC as for the consoles. PS3 failed big-time and 360 is starting to get old.

Gamestop/EBGames had stopped selling PC games about two years ago ,they have more "used" PC games than new.

Best Buy.....your best bet is to find a Comp USA if you're going to find one at retail or buy it online.

The lifespan of PC gaming rests solely on the shoulders of the consumer. People stop supporting PC games than the industry will die.
