I was just looking around for some good sites where you can customize a comp and they will build it for you like an ibuypower or similar site. Are some more reliable than others? Please tell me your experience or whatever with these sites and reccomend one.

Thanks in advance,

badgert

I built mine myself from parts I got at a computer faire. It turned out much cheaper than if a company had done it for me, and it was pretty easy. I learned how to upgrade it while doing it, so I'd recommend doing it yourself.

Seriously, this is the way to go. And don't worry, you get purchase a half-done model like this one;

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3901251&CatId=2405

Add these:

DVD Burner

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3606229&CatId=89

Sound Card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3516515&CatId=2771

Video Card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3481319&CatId=1826

And you're done. You had to put three things in a computer, it would probably take you twenty minutes.

Total is:

$699.99

A computer with almost identical specs from IBUYPOWER costs: $1035

http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=224#header

(If it's less, the page must've reset itself. You can configure it the same if you want to see).

In the end, you save $335.01, money that can be spent on gmaes, not on some guy in India carelessly slapping together your components. And if you're still hesitent on building, take a look at this:

Now does that look very hard?

To further persuade you to build your own, read this testimonial about cyberpower:

AVA Direct is still reliable from what I've heard. But is it worth $335 more? You're going to have to open up your computer and upgrade down the road eventually. You might as well do it now. ;)

Just FYI, ibuypower and cyberpower are NOT the same company.

Also, building your own PC will always be cheaper than a custom build, but not everyone wants to put the time and energy into learning, building, and troubleshooting their own PCs.

I'd reccommend this book - Build the Ultimate Gaming PC by Extreme Tech. It's a bit out of date (it concentrates on Pentium 4), but it's increased my knowledge a lot; I think another week or so with research on the most current parts and I'd feel confident to build my own. There are quite a few guides out there on the internet too; try Tom's Hardware and also Expert Village :)

There cheaper but I wouldn't call them more reliable. They have very poor ratings at reselleratings, almost every user in this board thats been around awhile say to avoid them, there DOA rate shouldn't be as bad as they are, and there customer support is awful

If you want an extremely reliable site, go to VoodooPC. They're reliable, and make some of the best PC's in the industry, but they don't get out of bed for under $2k.
