Good sound Options for PS3?

Gaming headsets/headphones = big no-no. People who recommend Astros don't know good quality.

Headphones from a good brand such as Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG, Grado, ect = Goooood. Very good.

My personal recommendation is a pair of Sennheiser HD555s and a Rolls amp. Good headphones usually require a decent amount of amplification to get the best out of them. 85 bucks is an insane price for those headphones. Heck even the refurbished price of 51 bucks is down right mind-blowing considering how good they are. The only downside is that they are "open" backed headphones which means they leak quite a lot of sound. If you need closed back then you can try the HD280s or search for headphones from another brand listed.

Remember that headphones never need surround sound nor will they ever. Headphones can emulate or trick our brains into thinking this with regular stereo sources. There was never a need for it as it was always there.

Good but cost too much. If you don't mind the additional wire you can get the Zalman clip-on mic from amazon. To use a mic with a 3.5mm plug on the PS3 you need this adapter. You don't plug the headphones into it. the headphones go to the amp.

I am a college student and live in a apartment. I am looking for a good sound system for my PS3 and maybe for PC as well. People recommended me the Astro A40. However, I am not sure about the sound quality of the system. I can go with either headphones or speakers. My budget is around $350k0r3aN_pR1d3

Things like onboard sound or TV outputs just add gain to the signal. That makes it loud, noisy, and you get dirty audio/distortion. Amperage is the actual power being sent to the headphones. Gain takes that very weak/small sound being sent and just increases the volume while sending little to no power at all. Good headphones have a higher impedience rating than lowly headphones or gaming headsets. Higher impedience = needs more power to drive them. You can use without an amp but it doesn't sound nearly as good.

I've used them with a TV, iPod, Captivate, iPhone, integrated sound, and a X-Fi Titanium. These things sound way better with an opamp.

Of course I can't truly say this 100 percent as I don't own specifically the 555s, but this is based off of what I've owned

and the fact that Head-fi( which I know you go to :P ) uses very grandiose words to describe very subtle differences
