my friend is building a computer and I was just wandering if you think its worth the $600. and if not, how much would you think its worth? but overall I just want to know if its a good system and what it could run these days.

CPU: Q9450 OC 3.6 GHz

Motherboard: Gigabyte-P35-DS4

Memory: 2G, 1066MHz

HD: 250

Video Card: nvidia geforce 8800GTS

Thanks in advance!

It's an okay computer, change the GPU, add 2 more GB of ram, get another HDD 320GB+, and it will be an amazing computer.

Well, that's half a computer. What's he going to do for a case, OS, and power supply?

So he's getting you a $300 processor, a $150 graphics card, an $80 motherboard, $30 worth of RAM, and a $60 hard drive (which totals out to over $600 already), and he's managing to get you a copy of Windows, not to mention a case and a power supply for less? Something smells fishy about the deal. A crappy case is annoying, but a crappy power supply can destroy your computer - make sure you get something good here.

Well, you can either trust him, or get a more definitive list of parts for us to look at. The list you posted is vague in many places, and as I mentioned earlier incomplete.

Agreed, that is a very vague list.

Also, for a gaming computer, i would get a bigger hard drive, game installs arent getting any smaller, 300 gb and over would be better.

With the 2 GB of ram, XP would run somewhat faster. In truth, Vista actually isn't much slower than XP, it just uses more ram and used to have a lot of driver issues.

4gb of ram makes a lot of difference in vista.

yes well i have an extra gig of ram in this computer so I will just add it to the new one making it 3gigs. thing is I dunno do you guys think games lag more in vista or xp and does it perfrom better depending on the windows your running? but really what would you stick with, I know when Vista came out everyone said it was terrible, but lots of time passed since then and I have been using windows XP profesional so I don't know if its better to stick to XP or Vista. If eventually I will need to, I might as well do it now. But I dunno those who have played games on both should tell me if theres a big difference, I dont care if its some small lag but if its really that bad?
