I know i posted a similar topic before, but i think it mught of been in the wrong section. I do apologize for that. sorry.

My problem is like so:

I plan to have a full overhaul of my PC around the july august mark of
this year. The new rig will be fitted with dx10, duel core... and all
that jazz.

An offer for me to get a widescreen monitor has come up, for almost
no cost. The widescreen i could get for a tiny fee is the Samsung
226bw. Although if i decided, i could use a 17" CRT till i get the new
PC, and possibly get a 24" widescreen instead.

Please note, if i chose not to get the 226bw right now, i would get the money that would other wise be put towards it.

My problem is the pixle pitch of the 226bw, like all 22"
widescreens its 1680 x 1050. so the pixle pitch is bigger then most
monitors around. So i keep feeling that if i get this screen now, i
wont enjoy it as much as i would if i were to get a 24" widescreen when
i get the new PC.

Please let me know what you think.

how long of a wait is it between acquiring the possible monitors?

if you can get a 24inch, do it man! but a 22 inch is gonna be GORGEOUS!! TRUST ME!!!

widescreen monitors look fantastic, a 19" alone is a fabulous gaming monitor, and I assure you that the wider the screen, the more fun you'll have!

Its absolutely true, the experience is enhanced greatly when switching from a regular screen to widescreen (especially smaller to bigger), CRT monitors are gross, although have higher resolutions, you'll NO DOUBT have more fun with a widescreen LCD and youll be in love with a 22 or a 24

its all up to you though, 22" or 24"? having a powerful PC is spoiled when ur using a small 17inch, but anyway if you dont have to wait too long inbetween acquiring the monitors, I'd say wait for the 24, but if u gotta wait like a month, get the 22 buddy!

well, i think you should buy the cheapest 22" widescreen you can find atm, here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824232006 is a cheap one, and you wont be able to tell the difference between a cheaper one and an expensive one trust me, I'm not sure if newegg ships to australia though, instead of getting a 24 inch widescreen, maybe get 3, 17" monitors and a triplehead2go device, it would cover more (much higher resolution), be way cooler, and be about the same price as jsut one 24"

Im absolutly sure it does, i loved the demo. The thing is, i'm not sure how much they will cost (24") around august this year. If they drip into around $500-$600 (australian) mark then i think that would be a better choice. What do you think?

Interesting. I would say go for a 22". The native res is really the sweet spot for games. It's the cutoff point for the 8800GTS 320MB. So if you wanted to get a 8800GTS and want to play at the Monitor's native res, then get a 22", because that is the res that the GTS excels at.

Still, a 24 just seems to be a compromise between a 22" and a 30". Anyway, it's your choice really. I just think it's better if you buy all your parts at once...

Hey, NP, man. The reason I recommend getting it all at once, is that if you spread it out, then put your Computer together and a part fails, it might not be possible to RMA because it might be couple days past the 30 Day mark...

The 24" is going to have the same resolution, so I don't see what you're worrying about. I say go for the 22" and sell it when you need to get the 24"? How much is this "small fee"

its free pritty much.

and the 24" has a better res then 22" ones.

22" ones have 1680 x 1050 giving them a pixle pitch of 0.282
24" ones have something like 1900 x 1200 giving them a pixle pitch of 0.27 or something ?

what i would really like to know is how much a 24" one would cost around august this year sort fo thing. any estimates?

Dude if it's free hop on that and sell it man.

I don't know in AU dollars but you can get the Dell 2407FP for around $500 sometimes with rebates.

The thing its, its only free becasue my dad is shouting me 1/2 of it, nad buying my old screen that im using now. So i couldnt sell that. Also, if i wait till i get my new PC and get the 24" at the same time, il still get $250 outa dads pocket and an extra $200 for this one now. The only thing is how much will 24" screens be at that time. (august)

Well, it's your choice. A good 24'' monitor is still going to cost you a lot more than a good 22'' one (like the 226BW).

Ah, I see, I figured there would be some stipulation like that. In that case I would say wait for the 24", It'll just serve you longer overall. As for prices it depends on what brand and panel type you are looking to buy.

Well Samsung makes their own panels, so this looks like a good choice. The Dell 2407FP is also very nice, but it's a gamble as to what panel you are going to get.

Wow, looking at some prices now I'm wondering if a free 22" is not a bad deal. You're still getting all the equivalent cash right, or am I missing something? If you are I would still go with the 24", just because if you get a nice one they look amazing.

But you can get like a 22' Samsung from Circuit City for $330. Then there's the 24" for about $550 -- is the extra 2" worth the price difference?

This is true, like check out how the 226 is half the price of the 244t. I didn't know they updated this panel.

Hmm, I guess the choice is up to you.

1. Save $250 and go with a 22" panel that has a non HD resolution
2. Spend an extra $250 and go with a 24" HD panel that will last you for years

If you do wait, there will probably be more HDCP compliant 24" panels on the market, I don't think the 244t is, but the Dell may be.

HDCP compliance is important to consider, basically it allows the monitor to view protected HD content, which is what Windows Vista is all about.

I would check out your local electronics store and see if the extra 2" is worth it to you.

I think i will go with the 22", out of fear that the 24" prices will not be low enough by the time il get my new PC, and i would of wasted all that time not having a niuce screen at all. btw mate, neodragon , your sig is the awesomest. :D

High Definition Copy Protection

It's a way for content providers to encrypt at the display level, so you can't pirate. Basically if they don't want you to play the file without an HDCP monitor, it won't play.

Your trailer isn't encrypted (like HD-DVDs) so it will play just fine

ATLReppa770

Trailers are fine, as is other content. I'm talking about the hypothetical future 3 years from now, when everyone will be downloading digital content legally, but it will all be HDCP encrypted. This has currently been implemented in the new media formats.

im a viewsonic man myself... but a 22" is really good, good for everything, improves the experience of games, etc, worth getting if you really like a good gaming experience
