So I loaded up Gothic 3 for the fifth time a few days ago, and I have been enjoying it non-stop since then!

I dont know why I didnt like it the first few times I played. I would say "meh, the audio sucks" and play Oblivion or some other quasi-RPG.

But then I was bored (no internet = bored!) so I decided to give it one last chance. I got the patch at my school's library, loaded it on my flashdrive, then patched the game on my home PC and its been a blast!

The quests for each town are diverse and unique, and earning reputation for the various factions is always entertaining. In addition, its very satisfying to level up and choose various skill points. Character interation is also great, and while voice acting is not great it doesnt hurt the quality imo. Combat took some getting used to, but as long as you know what your doing its extremely fun taking on like 5 orcs at a time. I think people complain about the combat because theyre just used to pointing at something and clicking, and Gothic 3 requires a bit more thinking than that.

My only problems is that gaining 75 reputation at each orc town is a bit tedious and repetative after a while, and the game is still glitchy as heck even on a nice PC like mine.

For all you Gothic 3 lovers, I finally see what you see. And for those of you initially put off by the game, I recommend giving it just one more chance! Dont forget to patch!

I really wanted to get into the game and at times I really enjoyed it, but the combat was so very frustrating. I enjoy getting up close and personal with a blade and shiv my enemies but for some reason it was quite difficult to do that and I was getting my ass handed to me by wolves. One other thing that somewhat confused me is that enemies start attacking as fast as a machine gun, like they were hyped up on speed or something.

Again, I did enjoy the atmosphere, the look and the quests, but the combat really turned it off for me.

Ya, humanoid opponents are quite fun but I can empathize with you on the wolf and wildlife matter. Its frustrating at times when you just took on like 20 bandits, and then (before you remember to save the game) you get mauled by a wolf with a fast attack speed.

Fortunately, you just need to practice a bit. I handle wildlife just buy keeping my bow equiped so their names show up like 100 feet away, then I either shoot them or run up and hack em up. Also, wildlife is generaly weak enough that a few quick right-click attacks kill them without leaving you exposed.

I loved the game for the first fourty hours. But after being in the desert for couple days, I returned to Reddock. For some reason all the orcs and mercenaries had wandered there all the way from Faring and they were hostile at me. I hadn't done anything to them. I tried to load my older saves, but they had the same bug. I didn't feel like playing the game anymore, because it ruined everything I had planned.

I might give it another later on. Gothic 3 is the last Gothic I bought though. I don't want to support JoWood any longer. They stopped patching the game after v1.12 even though it still had serious problems. And still does with the community patch 1.4.

With better combat (bow feels like cheating etc.) and more polishing the game would be superb.

I certainly did enjoy this game a lot. If you like Gothic, Mr.Bo, take a look at Two Worlds. Same deal, you get kind of put off at first, but it grows on you a lot and then grabs you by the balls, heh.

I do agree with the resentment towards JoWood though. I know they are a tiny dev team, but still, support the games you release, especially when they aren't polished to begin with.

Correct. My bad. I suppose both are accountable.

So i installed Gothic 3 (like you) to give it one last shot, i DL'ed all the patches and even the community patches (Which removed the bug that has been bothering me alot) and it was a BLAST! I love Gothic 3 and i can't WAIT for Gothic 4!

I saw this game for twenty bucks at Office Max the other day. I thought about picking it up, but decided against it for some reason. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I just got the demo and the only annoying thing is the combat. Its different and I like different styles of combat, but it really needs special powers so you aren't just jabbing your sword. Won't be happening as too many people hate Gothic 3, meaning Gothic 4 probably isn't gonna come. But if there was a G4, then I think it should have the same combat, only with special powers and movies so you aren't just tossing your sword all day.

I completely agree with you. I like Gothic 3 much more than Oblivion. It's so much more fluid.

They said the same thing about Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines...
