Can't wait for it, hopefully it'll be at least half of the game G2 was :P.

I was thinking about getting Gothic 4, but is it a standalone game, or should I play the earlier games first because the story is connected?

"Gothic 4" is being made by a different team so expect changes to the Gothic formula. As for the plot, in the new Gothic you play a different character and I imagine there is a large disconect from the plot of the original 3 games.

As far as i can remember the it IS the same character as in the first 3 games but the only game in which you needed to know the past games' story is G2. This is pretty much a standalone game, so it dosen't matter. Oh also i bet it wont be HALF as awsome as the second game :D

I'm playing Gothic 2 Gold:Night of the Raven right now. This is my first time playing and I have to say - it's one of the best if not the best RPG I've ever played. Not only is the story keeping me addicted, everything else is **** near perfect - not to mention it's HUGE, with tons of content. I hope Gothic 4 is going to be great, but I just don't see how it could compare to 2.

B45AK

The plot of Gothic 4 will be the direct sequel to the Innos ending of Gothic 3. It's the same world and you can even see some old characters such as Diego in one of the screenshots. The change of team will certainly affect the challenge and depthness of the game, despite of having a "hardcore" mode to choose.

Yep, if you can stand the graphics try G2 it's one of the best RPGs of its kind, 3 is pretty good too it has a lively world like any Gothic (which is better than any other RPG out there, maybe something like Fable comes close), bugs were mostly fixed thanks to the community, but it's far from G2 :P too bad they didn't make some HD mods for G2, textures and models.

This is made by the same people who made Risen right? (I remember reading that the guys behind Risen made Gothic 1-3) If it's as good as I found Risen to be, imma buy it.

Why does this year have to be such a great year for games? My wallet is on the brink of killing itself :(
