www.newegg.com has good reviews on the cards, not really sure on the brands although if your getting a new card i would wait for october 29th and the 8800 gt.. You can get the 512 mg version for like 250

Brand does not matter when it comes to the GPU-engine itself.
However different brands will have different warranties.

Some brands will have "superclock versions".
They are the same card just overclocked. (Something that can be done manually, and the little OC those cards have doesn't give any performance boosts to justify the higher price.)

All 8800GTS 320MB versions (except the OC versions) will perform the same.

Some brands have better cooling than others.

It's best to buy everything from reputable brands like MSI and EVGA.

Hey,

I would stick with brand name video cards such as EVGA, XFX, etc. The GPU is not the sole part of the video card. Although it is the main part, a high end GPU will need a high end cooling system and such to take advantage of it fully. THe cheaper brands tend to keep the GPU but sacrifice some essential components in favor of a cheaper price. Only way i would get a non-brand model is if you an find credible reviews on it that are good. As a rule, I never buy video card w/o reading several professional and user reviews on it. It's gives a a good overall on the card and it's flaws as well as its advantages. :)

Get a 2900 pro instead of a 8800. Makes no sense to get an 8800 right now.

NVIDIA: eVGA would be my choice, though XFX is also decent.

ATI: SAPPHIRE or HIS.

Both brands: ASUS,MSI.

If you go with Nvidia, I would pick from these three.

#1 XFX-excellent support, double-lifetime warranty. You must register with 30 days of purchase for the warranty.

#2 eVGA-excellent support, lifetime warranty, step-up program. You have to register within 30 days of purchase for the warranty.

#3 BFG-excellent support, lifetime warranty, and last time I check, you do not have to register to have a warranty with them.

Now, I think these warranty's only apply to the US, so if you live somewhere else there might be a better option.

Just my 2 cents of course.

Some brands have better oc than others. However, in my opinion the best brand currently is evga simply due to its lifetime warranty.
