Yes it will, you'll most likely overheat fairly quickly without the fan working, the heatsink by itself won't be enough to dispel all of the heat generated. That being said, it depends on what kind of card that you've got.

A high end card though will overheat extremely quickly.

Try blowing some compressed air into the fan, as it might have gotten blocked by dust.

With a bottle of compressed air, which I'm guessing you don't have.

Can you see a big pile of dust around the fan?

You mean the fan fell off the video card?

Fan's are normally (to the best of my knowledge) screwed to the card, so it'd be pretty hard for it to fall off.

If the fan isn't spinning at all, and there isn't any dust in it, then you may have broken the fan, and you'll need to get another fan (unless anyone else thinks of anything else). The fan falling off also isn't a good sign.

No, but it'll most likely overheat when you start playing games.

It'll begin to fail, you'll get artifacts in game, and eventually the card will just give up the ghost and die completely.

I'd just suggest RMA'ing the card if you can, or buying an aftermarket heatsink and fan for it if you can get them, I'm not too sure about that though.

Just double check that there isn't anything obstructing the fan and I'd wait for someone else to comment before you follow my advice :).

If this was my graphics card, and the fan wasnt working, I wouldnt turn it on.

Depending on how well ventilated your case is, even when u are not using it for games you could be doing serious damage.

I would recommend getting a new fan and heatsink and fitting it yourself, or if you are not confident doing that, just get a new graphics card.

Your graphics card WILL die SOON if you are playing games without a fan.
