If he can't afford even a 3850 or 9600, how can he afford any pc games?

EDIT: the 8600 would be better for gaming, but still far from good.

Got an 8600 myself

and i love it personally

i know i will upgrade eventually. But the 8600 will do what it needs to do. I run many games on high. Without any problems. Thought if your looking for true gaming experience make sure you have enought ram because that can be just as impant or more important that a graphix card

Actually not he can't, just he don't want to spend such money on pc. He is not a hardcore gamer and he don't mind playing with lower graphics settings :)

He should go for 8800 GT, it has a short difference price leap from 8600 GS but with a HUGE performance leap. Think it this way, if you ave a 8600 GS your system can be considered as mid-end PC but if you have 8800 GT your rig can be considered high end, thats how much performance plus you'll get from an 8800 GT compared to 8600 GS.

People should slag off the 8600 series so much, it will run any game out at the moment on Medium/High spec, served me proud since it's release day, ye it probarbly is coming near the end of it's lifespan so it would be time to upgrade to a 8800 or 9600
