I'm just curious as to how people customise their in-game graphic options. I used to try and balance the quality and frame-rate, sitting around the 25-30 fps rate on very high settings. Lately (in Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2) i've knocked the graphics settings and anti-aliasing back a bit to boost the framerates. They still look great on normal/high (for each game respectively), and run a lot better.

So, what does everyone else do on theirs?

I far prefer smooth gameplay over good looks, although I must admit that I always set texture quality as high as it will go. AF is the second of my priorities and I have no issues sacrificing things like shadows, lighting and AA for a smoother experience.

I'd take a smooth gameplay experience over a better looking one. Although, if I can get a smooth experience out of a superb looking game, then obviously, ill take that.

I have HD4850 and it can handle all games I play @ 1440x900 resolution and gives me 40+ FPS at any given point. :)

Personally I prefer 'Balanced' - some settings are at high, some are at medium that give me playable frame rate with quality graphics.

It depends. On newer games, I usually push the graphics to the max at the expense of framerate (anything under 30 is untolerable though) but anything older than 2006 I always need 60-85 FPS.

Balanced of course

More than 60 fps is IMHO a "waste" as it's not noticeable. Why play a game with the lowest settings getting 70000000 fps, when you still can get a decent framerate with above medium settings?

Yes it is. I don't remember exactly but human eye could see something like up to 100 fps? I can notice a difference between 60 and 80 fps easily.

No, you won't notice above 60 fps.

Edit: lol maybe you can, but the human eye can't.:P

I have found that when I am playing a game I don't notice the difference between medium, high, and very high settings. If you stop to pick everything apart and compare then sure there is a difference but to be honest having slightly better textures or particle effects doesn't make my gaming experience any better. On the other hand, nothing destroys the experience quite like a little lag.

That is what exactly I prefer. I seconded it.

This is a common misconception, you can see the difference of the jump from 60-80 or 80-60, it could also be placebo effect. To test if you really could see a difference you would need two set of screens, one running at constant 60 fps and one at constant 80 fps, with the fps ofc not showing. Then you could try and see the difference.
