Hello everyone!

Recently I've been dying to play great adventure games like I used to a few years ago, browsing around the net I can't come up with decent titles similar or better than those games I used to play. So I was kinda hoping some of you guys played adventure games and got some suggestions? Here's a small list of the adventure games I've played.

- Runaway I & II
- The Longest Journey & Dreamfall
- Monkey Island (all titles pretty much)
- Fahrenheit
- Syberia I & II
- Indigo Prophecy
- Broken Sword (all titles)
- Uru: Ages Beyond Myst
- and a few others I can't remember the names.

To summarize, I'm a HUGE fan of puzzle games, point and click sort of games. Any of you folks got some more?

SUGGESTED GAMES SO FAR:

Grim Fandango, Full Throttl, Gabriel Knight, Sam & Max

Grim Fandango isn't on your list but, looking at all the classic games on your list, I will assume you have played it. If for some reason you haven't -- you really should. It is great!

Check out Full Throttle and another game I can't name right now.. It was a hilarious point & click game. Space Quest, or something like that. I haven't played Day of the Tentacle myself, sadly, but I've heard it's awesome too.

IMO Nancy Drew are a terrible adventure game series. Here's some good ones that haven't been suggested or you haven't played:

Still Life (very similar to Syberia in gameplay)

Discworld series (the 3rd, Noir is IMO best or second best adventure game ever, it's a parody of The Maltese Falcon+Casablanca)

Gabriel Knight series

Sam & Max series

I played Still Life, excellent game! I'll add those 2 to my list. Was already considering Sam & Max, it definitely looks fun.

I know it's been mentioned but if you haven't, You must play Grim Fandango.

Oh and yes, try Sam & Max Season 1, the formula of each episode gets a bit repetitive but it's still good.

I played that too, although is a totally different genre I'd say. I was referring more to the point-and-click games. Or basically plain puzzle/adventure games. I loved Runaway, Dream of the Turtle, I don't get how it got low reviews :(

That's an action adventure/role playing game, not an adventure game

Have you played "beneath a Steel Sky"

It's now freeware, and a great adventure game.

Play it play it. You must.

At first the graphics look a bit dated... but it really is a really great adventure game.

i didnt fee; ;ike typing out an entire post again so im just going to paste my reply from another thread.

i finally purchased monkey island 4(escape) in november last year. loved it . then i got grim fandango in april this year and completed it and just completed curse of monkey island last week.At first I coudnt find monkey island 1 and 2 anywhere. I found them though but they dont have any music or voice acting ,so i assumed it was not the complete version(it was only 9mb) so i deleted it and am looking for the the enhanced cd versions .No luck yet.Its frustrating because i heard that they are the best.I want maniac mansion too.

after much thought i think curse is the best. It had a really beautiful and engaging artsyle(handdrawn?) and it was the only point and click of the 3.I was so frustrated playing grim fandango because of the horrible inventory system.Looking at one object one at a time made puzzles overly infuriating and frustrating.Sure unlike the monkey games it doesnt involve combining objects but it was really testing my patience.Moving in Mi4 and grim was pretty bad too.

At least MI 4 let you scroll through your items quickly in a translucent inventory.I also hated how lack of point and click spoilt MI4 and grim. I mean in grim you had to notice if Manny's head looked down at the item or you'd miss it. I wasted time because of overlooking items that way.

The most infuriating moment is when you reach that railways station and you have to help the big orange dude(glottis?) and the area was so small and knew i was so close to cracking it but ended up spending an hour because the toaster and cupholder were so close together( your head has to face the cup holder). Had it been point and click i would have finished it in a jiffy.I had to use a walkthrough for that.pathetic.

I think the way of interacting with characters and objects was the best in the MI3 with the coin thing. use-look-eat/talk. So well thought out. I played that game without overlooking items because of that.

But between MI3's ship insult swordfighting and MI4's monkey kombat i think its hard to choose. Monkey combat was waaaay harder than insult swordfighting(but insult swordfigting was funnier). I had to make notes after each mnkey move and finally masterd it. Very complicated.took 3 full pages of notes to crack it. Each new save game the sequence changes so you coudnt use a walkthrough for it.

One more thing.towards the end of grim fandango you had to pick a ice bucket or somthing from a stage top after putting a skeleton hand in it . That was the only time in the entire game you HAD to use the "pick-up" button. I spent hours trying to complete that part. then i see a walkthrough and it says you have to use the specially assigned pick up key......which i never needed to use in the entire game!!!

But the fake ending in MI3 was hilarious.

Grim fandango had a more satisfying and engaging story from start to finish though. It would make a very good animated movie(pixar?).

If they ever do make another MI game or adventure game lucas arts should use the MI3 coin system and ditch the weird movment and ditch the "head looks down at item and press I or p etc etc" system.

So over all MI3 is the best in humour,look/artsyle and inventory system. It really puts the other 2 to shame. It was so engaging, funny and pretty at the same time.Plus solving puzzles was so much easier beacuse all your items were shown in the same chest ,so figuring how to combine what with what was alot easier. I doubt i ever got frustrated and all the puzzles were great..travelling from one place to another also was done in a more fluid way.

Grim fandango best and most satisfying story/plot but had alot of gamplay issues. In the second year travelling up and down lifts to your hotel, the casino, the morgue, restaurant etc etc was really dull, long and unnessarily tiring. But it had some great puzzles too(alot of weird and unsatisfying ones as well). In MI3 you could just put the arrow at the location and reach there immediately with a double click..MI4 really good but not as good as MI3. I dont know why so many people here seem to hate it or consider it bad. I had alot of fun with it but again, beautiful handdrawn 2d > comparitively unatractive 3d.

The irony is how much better Mi3 is in almost all aspects even though it came out much before the other 2. Heres to hoping i can find the proper version of fullthrottle, maniac mansion and the first 2 monkey island games.

Yeah interesting stuff.

Sometimes the puzzles in adventure games can be cheap, misleading.. or you're simply not thinking on the same wave lengh as the guys that made it.

I too have spent hours... even ending up searching every pixel on the screen, and trying every object on every single person and thing in every screen of an adventure game.... and then ending up finding the little bit of information online and thinking.. "What the heck.. I'm sure I tried that/I'm sure I looked there."

Also, of course, there are many bugs in these kind of games too... so when you've spent hours searching for something.. and you are100% sure that you have tried everything.. it gets worrying.. like, perhaps a bug is stopping you from progressing... so you go and look it up only to find out you missed something...... Yeah, it happens to the best of us. I'm not sure if i have completed an adenture game without at least having to look up one thing (well... perhaps I've cleared a couple flawlessly.)

Only thing is, there is nothing more satisfying finding it all out for yourself.... and when you have to have a little help... it's kind of disappointing in a way. I guess, if you're patient enough, you would figure it out.... but what if that ends up as weeks being stuck?

Yeah.. I really like adventure games. Shame you can only play them once though.

true. I think i have atleast needed a walkthrough once or twice for certains sections in every adventure game. In MI4 for example......towards the end if you dont hit the hermit on his head with the items in order........thats it. No chance of progressing. Luckily i make many game saves so i was ok. Think about the poeple who had only 1!!

Grim had a quite a few bad puzzles especially in that forest. you had to roll over some wires or somthing to and make glottis climb on top.........i still dont undertsand how that puzzle works completely. Also about finding out the day of the week and day for that ticket printing puzzle was just too hard. No way i would have cracked that my self. Also when you have to tear the ship in half with the 2 anchors........i just flooked it. I dont know how but i tried some stuff , but have no idea how i did it.

Also sometimes a puzzle become hard if you miss a dialogue sequence. For eg. sometimes you have to say something in particular to a character to progress. That can be a pain as well.

So whats your favourite adventure game ?

Broken Sword was great, (and broken sword 2 was pretty good too) ... must get part 3 and 4 sometime.

And I am yet to play Monkey Island (unbelievably)

Also I just found out about Sam & Max .. so it's great to have a fresh batch of games to play.

At the moment I am playing The Longest Journey... which is really good too.

So much to play:D

Play the Gabriel Knight series. The Beast Within is one of the best adventure games ever made, and get this: it's FMV.

Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis FTW! My favorite Adventure Game ever, I must have completed it over 20 times.

On a similar note at HMV I saw a boxed copy of The Dig...They rereleased it or something... I was floored.
