Well, I use the Logitech G35s with my laptop, though my laptop is not the most portable one around. They are very nice, comfortable and the sound is great. Simple set-up as well. Only thing is, they're not exactly subtle.
I use Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset + Cheap + Very comfortable even after a couple of hours + Excellent bass response - Mono microphone .. What in the .. I'm sure there's far better headsets out there, but if you're looking for something cheap go with these.
Audio-Technica AD700 or Sennheiser HD555 if you don't mind the sound leakage of open headphones, huge size, and lack of mic boom (not headsets). Affordable, high quality sound, comfortable, and work very well with CMSS-3D Headphone and/or Dolby Headphone.
You really need circumaural and preferably open back for gaming. Something like Audio Technica AD900s (LTD version even better), Beryerdynamic 880s and 770s are popular too. I think this mostly depends on what level you consider 'great', personally i view things in absolute scales so my great = head-fi's idea of great which starts at about $200, though few people seem to agree on this interpretation. You really have to give us a budget first as the G35s and CX500 obviously don't come close to some of AT's high end offerings but there's no point recommending the best if you've only got $50 to spend.
