Hey guys im looking for a really good RPG. im not talking about new rpgs like the witcher (which sucked imo)

Im looking for an RPG like dragon quest 8 (which i never played but heard it was great) or something like secret of mana, final fantasy or lufia 2, grandia 2, breath of fire 3.

just an old great RPG game or semi new good RPG thats turn based. I just want to explore like crazy with story, great characters.

i really wish there was some good RPGS that are on PS2 were for pc =(

can you guys help me out?

favorite rpgs : final fantasy 7, breath of fire 3, lufia 2, secret of evermore, few others that i cant remember the name =(

Sounds more like you're looking for JRPGs, of which there is a noticeable lack on the PC. About the only JRPGs that have been made were FF7, FF8, Grandia 2, and Septerra Core. If you want a solid story and deep characters, you should give the Baldur's Gate series a shot (Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn + Throne of Bhaal) or maybe even the Fallout games. There is one downside to these games, though: they are fairly old and so will not have the visual pizazz as some of the newer games.

Sounds like you need a PS2, not a PC. Most PC RPGs aren't turn-based although Fallout 1&2 spring to mind. They have great exploration as well.

Really the only JRPG-styled game on the PC worth looking at: Anachronox
I enjoyed it quite a lot. (played it when it first came out)

In the realm of more traditional CRPGs, check out Knights of the Old Republic... if you happen to have missed it for whatever inadequate reason.

You don't need such mods. It's still awesome as it is.

Yes he does need such mods. My experience with the game was much improved when using the Widescreen Mod. I didn't use it for widescreen compatibility, but I used it to change the resolution from the pathetic native 640x480 to something only slightly higher. 800x600 or 1024x768, I don't remember which. Going too high makes everything too tiny, but a slight increase does wonders for the game.

I also was using the Torment Tweak Pack to alleviate a couple gameplay annoyances.

Yeah I was looking for some great PC Rpg's too. Most notably ones like Mass Effect or KOTOR or The witcher, in the sense you have choices on how the story progresses. (or the illusion that you have choices)

But any great RPG will do for me!

The Witcher - Enhanced = Epic win. Better then ME, has real choices, consequences, beautiful world, great story. Best RPG of the last couple years.

Arcanum, from the makers of Fallout, is pretty good. Not quite as great as Fallout, but a bit more recent and better looking.

here's a screen: http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2001/pc/rpg/arcanum/arcanum_screen001.jpg

And see the reviews for KOTOR as other mentionned, if you haven't played it already. It's turn based in disguise, you can decide actions while in pause. Good game too.

Easy.. WoW!!

Jk. I probably jolted an angry trigger in alot of people just then.

Hate to say it dude but you're not going to find that style RPG on the PC. You will find RPGs but nothing in that style. I know what you are looking for because I have a taste for those kind of games. Breath of Fire was probably one of the most overlooked RPG series on the planet (the first 2 were kick ass...3 was ok..4 was ok..Dragon Quarters did not float my boat at all).

I used to only play PC and desire games in that style. You won't find them. The good news for you is that you can probably find a PS2 somewhere for 25 bucks. I say spend the money.

Or get a PS1 or PS2 emulator and simply pop in the discs. I used to do that with PS1 rpgs.

As someone else mentioned , get Anachronox. Awesome game.

Another suggestion for a game very much like Final Fantasy 7 - Septerra Core.

Yes there are, but you'll have to look for 'em because I can't remember what it's called. :)

Also, you should try Fallout and Baldur's Gate!

There are many great RPGs out there, most notable are the ones I've listed below.

Nox

Sacred

Arcanum

Planescape: Torment (#1 on my top 10 RPGs of all time)

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2

Fallout 1 & 2 (#2 & 3 on my top 10 RPGs of all time)

There are many others but those are some of the ones that stand out the most. They aren't JRPGs but most of them are turn based and are very good games.

Old school RPGs I reccommend:

Planescape: Torment

Arcanum

Nox Arcana

Vampire: Masquarade

Vampire: Bloodlines

Anarchronox (a console like RPG but on the PC)

older school RPGS:

Baldurs Gate series

Icewind Dale Series

Wizardy 8 (Party TBS RPG) and The wizardry series

Lands of Lore 1-3 (all can be played in XP with tweaking, and maybe in Vista as well)

oldest School RPGs:

Moraff's Dungeon (VGA RPG)

Linely's Dungeon Crawl (RogueLike)

Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 (if you can live with the graphics)

Bards Tale 1-3 (CGA days)

this game is very great. if there was some sort of graphic enhancing mod it would be truely truely great. but hey even if there isn't i am totally digging this game so far. im gonna check out Anarchronox as some of you have mentioned.

you guys really know good rpgs :)

makoreactors

is this game in DD form now?

anyway, started out with JRPG, and ends up now with Torment, to me, the best CRPG ever.

there are two ways to get out of the Mortuary, and the *key* way has several ways of appraoching it. the guard has name.

I think there's a resolution tweak/mod. but judging from the *age* of this game, these mods come rather late. There's once I searched so hard for a graphical enhancement when Baldur's Gate 2 came out, and Infinity Engine looked wonderful at 1024x768. But not anymore, I replayed Torment as it is, just with a 20" LCD^^:

finally, I'm very curious as to how first-time Torment gamers set up Nameless One...some attributes are crucial to have more or less dialogue options.

enjoy your first planescape...and it shouldn't be the last, since nobody, even the more experienced role-playing gamers, can experience all of it in one runtrhough.

There is one game that combines all the old-school hardcore things (turn-based battles too) and beautiful graphics at same time. How strange is that very few gamers in the world knew about this game: Gods - Lands of Infinity (http://bestpcrpg.net/games/gods-lands-of-infinity/overview-screenshots-gameplay-clips.html).
