GTA IV Struggling FPS Graphics Wise

I bought GTA IV hoping to run this baby, and I know it can be done with a 650M (tons of visual proof on the internet) but it on mine is struggling. Apparently it is poorly optimized and has tons of issues. Anyway to fix this? I haven't found a way to patch it, but I'm not sure if that was it. I defragged the folder which helped a LITTLE but there has to be a way I can fully run this game on Max without getting destroyed (I seriously have like 2 fps at high).

i5 overlocked to a 3.1. It should be able to handle the game A LOT better than 2 frames per second. Even Medium it just hovers around 25.

Yes, I did. Although I didn't get anything for patches or downloads for that. Hmm.

For some reason, Patch 7 completely screwed my **** up. I don't know. I'm going to re-install the game. I've seen people with my exact computer run this at ultra at 35-60 FPS. 2 FPS is just ridiculous.

For some reason, Patch 7 completely screwed my **** up. I don't know. I'm going to re-install the game. I've seen people with my exact computer run this at ultra at 35-60 FPS. 2 FPS is just ridiculous.

I'm hoping to do this now. Install just finished. I know my computer can do a lot better than what it is now. I'm hoping to download it, patch it and then mod it. No point in modding it if I cannot even run it without mods. Ugh.

I don't understand the patches at all. I get two executable files to run, one says I need to do the installer? The other runs fine (asks me to remove the SC?) and I have a zip file full of files...I ran the one file that asks to remove the SC...now what!?

Now it won't run and keeps giving me the option to log into my Social Club, whether I decline it or not...nothing changes...UGH!

if it's of any help..probably not...my boxed copy of gta4 stopped working altogether too and I got the full set on steam for $5 without the crappy drm and patching

Nothing! just hope GTA V will be a better optimized game when it comes for the PC.

Updated. Nothing changed. No patch. It just keeps popping up Social Club wanting me to join. If I click yes, nothing changes. If I click no, nothing changes. I patched the 6th patch, as well as the 7th patch. It keeps popping up with some error if I try the game launcher. So...I have NO idea what to do now.

Fixed it. After an hour of messing with it, two uninstall/installs and I figured it out. Just had to download Windows Live Games for it. Ultra settings (minus night shadows) and I play the game at 42 FPS. I still have yet to OC my GPU or CPU. I am so happy. Here comes the mods. ;)

not surpruised that sh!t Live caused it. I removed it from my game with Xliveless.dll

What I did was download a couple of the mods, copy and pasted. I went into the game, into the options and everything was set at the ABSOLUTE WORST quality possible, including resolution. Nothing could be changed. I tried to play the game at the play game function and it stayed black. Nothing. So, here I go uninstalling it AGAIN. Haha.

what mods you are using can have all the difference, because a lot of the patches broke a lot of mods unless you like to spend a long period of time sorting through them.

I hate Social Club and GFWL when they're together. xD

Just placed random mods in there. Hahahaha. Modding has always been that easy, and it just stopped working. So, I went through and uninstalled again.

I feel for you. I got GTAIV and spent hours trying to get it looking and running nicely and eventualy gave up. Never touched the game again.
