I currently have a GTX 470 on my computer, while it plays fine for games so far, we have new releases coming soon like Battlefield 3, Batman AC, Metro Last Light and even Witcher 2 that came out already but I havent been able to run Ubersampling on it.

Will it be a big difference between the two?

And how long would you estimate that a GTX 590 can continue to run games at max graphics? 1-2 years?

590 (and 6990) is a waste of money. For the same price (or less), you could get two 570s or 6970s, which would give you more performance and much better temperatures.

Would dual gtx 470 be able to run these games maxed out? Also I've heard that games sometimes have issues when running using SLI

indeed sli and dual gpu's basiccally share the same problems cfx isnt free pof this dilema either.. dual gpu's arent really worth it. sure they look outstanding on paper but unless your playing the games they excel aty dont bother. and in the case of value for your dollar compared to the 6870x2 and 6990's that are out there the 590 isnt worth it for the same money you can get a 6990 and get better preformance where you can compared the two fairly and when you cant the 6990 is compatible with a handful of mroe games and applications the 590 just doesnt do.

as far as dual gpu's are concerned for a second round in a row amd wins it (though if you want to talks outlandish extremes the mars II (580x2) is the best card there is period but not wortyh the huge price tag.

I run GTX 480 SLI and have no problems :)Witcher 2 with ubersampling is awesome :D

I advise you get another 470 if you can - that way you should be set for Kepler.

They have less issues than GTX590 or 6990, those run really hot on 1 PCB.

Okay, I decided that I will just get another gtx 470 for now and run sli, but I have been looking around the web for a brand new one and its like they took gtx 470 off the market!!

Even evga the company that made my gtx 470 dont show it on their product line on their site!!

I bought it on newegg on January this year and they have discontinued selling it. Checked amazon, ebay, tiger direct, bestbuy, etc. and none of tem have an evga gtx 470.

EDIT: I found one new finally on ebay, but the bidding ends in 6 days and who knows what the price will be. If anyone knows of another site I can purchase it....would be my hero.

GTX 470 new....not worth it, even if you're going to run SLI. Any new ones I came across were $250+. If I can't find any on sites like you listed off, then I turn to shopzilla.com; basically a search engine for products. It listed off a good handful of ones that are refurbished/used that are running $180 and down. Any new listed was way to spendy for the card.

I'm running two 570's and I love it. There's nothing it can't handle.

go to craigslist, kijiji and buy one used. You save alot of money and even though it may not be "new" you'll still have 2 years warranty left on the card in which you can get it fixed if anything happens. If anything happens after the warranty ends, by that time you will probably look for a new upgrade anyways.

Do you need the same company that made the video card in order to run SLI or can it be any manufactured gtx 470? I thought it was had to be the same manufacturer.

Doesn't matter the manufacturer, so long as it is a GTX 470.

Unless you're playing at high resolutions above 1920 x 1200 it isn't really worth it. Scaling decreases when adding a 3rd card and power requirements are way up there so you will need a 1000w psu or better with the appropriate connectors. Unless you are water cooling three of those cards will put out a whole lot of heat and noise.

Ok, thanks, I'll just stick with 2. I have 3 medium size case fans and two large fans on the top and side. Would tha be enough cooling for 470 in sli?

My single card goes up to 82 degrees in temp when running witcher 2 on high.

Whats the difference between DDR5 and GDDR5 between graphics cards?

I see 2 gtx 470 made by galaxy and one is $10 cheaper than the other. Will either of them work with my evga gtx 470?

Your case fans should do well enough. You might want to set up a more aggressive fan profile with Afterburner/Precision. Just be aware that the video card on top will run hotter because of the heat from the second card. I don't know why the one is $10 less since it has a slight overclock. Either card will work fine with your 470. For SLI to work all the video cards have to have the same gpu. In your case they would need to have a 470 gpu.

Its just a typo, both are meant to say GDDR5, both will work fine with yours, but I would rather get the cheaper 1, it seems to have a better cooler, which is kinda weird for the price.

Ok, will do guys thanks for clearing it up for me. Last question, will a 850W power supply be sufficient to run 470 in sli? My friend who assembled my comp said its more than enough but I just wanted to double check.

What brand is it? I should be enough, regardless of brand. I know a Corsair tx 750 psu is capable of running two 470's in SLI with an overclocked 920.
