Not sure which one to go for, i've read that there have been quite a few problems with the msi version so i'm leaning towards gigabyte, but just wanted some external input
neither, go with the radeon 7950, a much better buy. I prefer sapphire but the other brand I also trust is XFX. Ive heard good things about all the radeon brands except for possibly powercolour

The thing is i just had a terrible experience with an AMD card, the 7850, basically didn't work with two computers and couldn't get it replaced because it wasn't a hardware fault, took 4 months and there isn't fixable. So i'm very very wary of buying an AMD card.

Majority of games would suddenly just black screen or crash to solid vertical stripes. Spent four months trying to solve it and there's nothing, other people with the same issue haven't found a solution. I want the 7950 now cos it's clearly better but if it were to be some sort of incompatibility between amd and my other components (not sure if that's possible) and it didn't work again the i'd be screwed.

That's a memory problem I think. My 5870 had it.
What do you reckon the chances of it happening again with a 7950 are?
MSI is overvolting their power edition cards for extra performance and it may cause issues with your system. There was an article at Tom's Hardware but I can't find it :/
Go with Asus, Gigabyte or EVGA if you don't mind the reference cooler.
