Any thoughts of this? I think I'll wait for AMD to respond for this. I'm itching to upgrade later this year, but I can also wait for next year.

Finally! I have been itching to upgrade so badly. I was so close to pulling the trigger on 2x 7970's, but hated the thought of buying 14 month old tech. Decided to hold off to see what the 7990 is all about and now this... the 700 series! Count me in for 2x 780's for sure! Can't wait! So glad I decided to hold off on a titan! Bye bye 5870's!!! Plus my birthday is May 23rd! Happy birthday to me!

I'm thinking November will be a good time to buy, hopefully by then we'll have the 760 and 750 as well as their AMD equivalents and maybe even a price drop if we're lucky.

That's what I'll be waiting for! I'll be using my school refund cash for a new graphics card

I bet most people will stick with what they got till maxwell. The crazy enthuasist who have multiple monitors already have an upper tier GTX 600/Titan and those who game on one monitor really have no reason to upgrade since games are still running on old dev kits (it doesn't take much to play games like DMC, far cry 3, tomb raider, bioshock 3....ect on high settings).

I'm new to building PCs but I'm thinking of doing so sometime within the next year, so forgive my lack of knowledge but I thought Maxwell was going to be the 700 series? Or is Maxwell the 800 series? I don't understand yet what all these differences are. Any clarification you guys can offer would be great.

Also, would it be a good idea to wait until these Maxwell cards come out before I put together a build? I'm not really in any particular hurry to do so, just interested in doing it sometime once next generation rolls around.

Same here. I'll stick to skipping one generation of GPUs. I want to see AMD's next lineup and Maxwell. If AMD keeps popping out good drivers throughout the year, I'll probably buy an AMD 8970, depending on price/performance.

There's no reason for me to upgrade as long as I'm happy with my 670. It's still a beast.

The brand new "Mawel"l architecture is going to be the GTX 800 series. The GTX 700 series is a refresh of the GTX 600 (there taking the same architecture from the GTX 600 and updating it to make it faster/more efficent). Both the 600 and 700 are "Kelper" architecture. The did refresh for the GTX 500 series also (the GTX 500 was a refresh of the GTX 400 series).

To answer the 2nd part its all up to you. If you have the money/desire to play games now then I wouldn't wait (it all depends on if you want to play games now). If your only going to game on a single monitor (1920x1200 resolution or under) then I would build now and get a GTX 660 SC for $180 (you can play games you've missed out on over the next 12-14 months and then sell the card and get the maxwell).

You'll at worst lose $100 by selling the GTX 660 SC but you will be able to play games until Maxwell

I'll likely get  the 770 if the price is below 500$. Otherwise I hope the cards cause AMD to drop the 7950 prices even further and then i'll grab one of those.

Wish I didn't see this thread, cuz I'm about to get a new gfx card, probably a GTX 660. Which might cost 30% less soon. But not soon enough for me :/.

But a 760ti will probably be close to the speed of a 680 while selling for 300-329.00 and using less power.

I am sticking with a 7950, because I plan to buy another one before next year probably. Hopefully that will run max max settings (not high aa) on most games for a few years.

Hope they're more aggressively priced than the 6XX series was. AMD's offerings destroy comparably priced Nvidia cards at the moment.

More like OVERKILL AIRSTRIKE.

Why the hell do you need 2 x GTX TITAN's for???

Tell me how overkill is a bad thing?

Waste of money most of the time.

I never said it was a BAD thing... I have 32GB of RAM on my machine which is overkill but it was because the shop where I buy at ran out of 16GB.

Depends what you need.  If you're running, for example, at 1920x1080 on one monitor, a Titan is overkill and a waste of extra money when a 670 can do the same thing.

Hopefully. If the GTX760 Ti is 20-25% faster than the 660ti then it should be pretty close. I can't wait for the 860 Ti (mid range price for what should be Titan performance),

To anyone thinking of upgrading here is my advice: skip each gen of cards. So if you have a 680 wait untill the 880 which will be Maxwell.

That is just in general but ofcoarse everyone plays different games, at different resolutions and have different expectations and so on and you should choose accordingly.

Do not base your upgrades on hardware cycles.

The GTX 570 is close in performance to the 660/7850 so you should for sure be fine with two, espically if you game at 1920x1200 or under (I don't understand your question, most people upgrade when they aren't getting good performance). Play some recent games and judge for yourself

Well I guess 2 Titans COULD be stressed, but it had have to be a really, really high res.

Think I will SLI a couple of the 780s in my Summer rig. May be a slight upgrade over my single HD5870. Just a slight one.

Hopefully, but knowing Nvidia's not so competitive pricing, the 680 will probably stay the same price for a while, with the 780 being more expensive.

One of the etailers here in aus has already dropped their 680 prices, and even the 670's.

You already got a 7870... Go for a 780 or wait until the 880 then.

I'm building a new rig in june. I was planning on getting a 680. Will the 680 fall in price and will the 780 take it's place pricewise?

Hopefully, but knowing Nvidia's not so competitive pricing, the 680 will probably stay the same price for a while, with the 780 being more expensive.

One of the etailers here in aus has already dropped their 680 prices, and even the 670's.

Nice. Here in the UK prices for 670 and 680 have been pretty consistent for a while, they are not likely to get major drops anytime soon.
