GW2 is looking more and more interesting. its a complete departure from GW1 (also fantastic) so its going to be very fresh. i just hope they dont have the things i hate about MMOs.....the grind being the main thing. im lookin forward to it though.

Guild Wars 2 will have the kind of extensive character advancement appropriate to a persistent-world RPG. Our goal is to avoid forcing players into the grind-based gameplay that too often accompanies a high level cap.

Taken from an FAQ answer from the official website, :)

GW2 actually has a story and a system that makes quests/encounters harder depending on the number of people doing the quest. Meaning, if you take the quest to "Defend the City" and 5 people are already there, you being the 6th means harder/more mobs will spawn, rather than you all gang killing the one trying to get the drops. in WoW, quests are just, "Collect X number of Y and return here" or, "Kill X monsters Y times",

Gw1 delivered that before, no doubt gw2 can still deliver that experience. I rarely say that, but first day purchase for me. I don't even care about the critics

considering the first GW didnt have much grinding, except a lil here and there for certain quests, i hope that GW2 will be similar. the level 20 cap was nice since it had the fun of lvling up and was still fun at after reaching lvl 20

ouch the bear and the emu just kicked the crap outa the walking dog.

my only problem with guild wars 1 (well, only mmorpg i've ever played so this may be true for all of them) is that finding a party is hard. It's pretty easy on the bigger levels/ early game but once you get onto some obscure part in the middle of no where, finding a group and the right type of characters was hard. Even after joining a guild, a small one at that, it was hard to be at the right level at the same time.

I'm hoping the partying up system is easier this time. I get it's something out of the hands of the developers but if they could come up with a nice, intuitive way to team up, i'd love them so much more.

I was really looking forward to this game for quite a while, and all of the gameplay videos they have shown so far have exceeded my expectations. They are rather contrived scenarios, obviously, but everything they've shown so far just looks amazing. This game will be a day one purchase for sure. Maybe this game will revolutionize the genre like WoW before it. Even if it doesn't, I'm sure it will be a blast, and with no subscription fee, getting this game should be a no brainer for anyone who likes MMORPGs at all.

I just said that was really looking forward to it even before the videos.

I also like the first game(s).

I also read all the articles.

I commented on the videos because that's what the thread is about. It's not just the graphics. It's the demonstrable way they have improved gameplay mechanics since the first game, things which I already knew about. The videos help to solidify the concepts of what they are talking about in my mind better, like when they say you can create a wall of fire and shoot arrows through it. That sounds cool. It helps to actually see exactly what they mean though. I like the improvements to the combat, in paritular that it looks more dynamic and fluid, as opposed to the first game, which tended to have a lot of standing in one spot in PvE.

Well, like I already said, obviously they are contrived scenarios meant to show the game in a more cinematic way. I did already say that, so if that's what your issue is with what I said, that seems rather pointless to point out. I know that it's not exactly how the game is going to play, but barring any changes they decide to make later, the skills are going to work in the way they show them.

If you're going to sit here and argue semantics with me just for the sake of being antagonistic, I don't see much point in arguing since you're probably just going to keep it up until I stop replying anyway. I think it's pretty clear what I meant.

Dudee..... take a chill pill.

Geez, talk about taking everything personally.

I was just saying that I haven't seen actual GAMEPLAY videos yet, like with the HUD bars and everything, to see how those skills work.... and was asking if there were any.

No need to lash out....

my hype level for this game is through the roof. and this time we wont need a monk for our barrage rangers group :) this, too, is a day one purchase for me assuming there is no preorder. they are just keeping all the things i loved in the game and taking it into a direction that would make it better. i cannot wait to hit character creation and create a charr ranger

So many problems with such a small post.

WoW didn't invent that general RPG profession concept in the first place. That's problem number one.

Guild Wars already had this stuff, and Guild Wars was mostly in development at the same time as WoW. That's problem number two.

The Ranger profession in the first game, despite having these things, hardly played like WoW's Hunter. Guild Wars just did not play like other games in general, and it is doubtful that the second one will. (A good bit of this is due to PvP being a significant design focus rather than something that is tacked on.) That is problem number three.

There are only so many things you can do in designing a game before you just start getting weird and rather unintuitive just for the sake of being different. Some things are standard for a reason. Mechanically, it makes sense for a profession that is at its best when enemies are at a distance to have traps that punish them for closing in. Most games tend to be grounded in something familiar on some level. That is problem number four.

what you talking about they were awesome only recently have they REALLY started circling the drain. before they had alot of good combo's and could WRECK some classes up in pvp. i remember taking all sorts of casters to school before they retooled broad head arrow

I feel like we weren't playing the same game. Rangers can be pretty damn obnoxious.

The real problem was that Beast Mastery wasn't really as useful as the other traits, which was partially due to needing to use up two of your eight slots just to have and be able to revive a pet. (You only need a revive in PvE now, but you still need to "waste" a slot with the Charm Animal skill in PvP for balance reasons.) Fortunately, in the sequel they aren't making one choose between having a decent pet or having a nice array of weapon skills, as they have basically abandoned the old trait and skill selection systems altogether.

ArenaNet is a computer game developer and part of NCsoft Corporation, founded in 2000 by Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain and located in Bellevue, Washington... On September 10, 2008, NCsoft announced that all their North American and European subsidiaries, including ArenaNet, were to be governed by a new division named NC West (a tentative name), headquartered in Seattle, Washington

and yes, you sound a bit racist with that statement, but be happy, this game is 100% american.
