The developers consider the Original Guild Wars a CORPG.

''Although often defined as an MMORPG the developers define it as a CORPG due to significant differences from the MMORPG genre.''

Since GW2 is set to be in the same format that makes it NOT an mmo. So we can all stop comparing it to other games now? :p

There goes the most important reason I had to get it...only beautiful scenery remains...exploration is officially 0 if it's identical to GW, I didn't expect it to be an actual MMO since it's F2P, but I always hoped, fans where already taking it for granted that this time it'll be a MMO so it made it easier to hope.

Might want to read up on the game in a legit site before you start threads like this spouting misinformation. It has been long known this game is nothing like the original Guild Wars. Wikipedia is not a source of legit information since anyone can edit anything in there. This is why no college worth a crap will let you use it as a source for research. But if you want to use wiki look up GW2 on there, the first paragraph describes it as an MMO. You are so wrong here it makes me think you had other motives for this thread.......

Straight from the FAQ on their website: Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO? Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world.

It says the same on the Original GW FaQ but the developers don't consider it an MMO.

Hyper, you're not very well informed. Yes, the developers never called the original Guild Wars a true MMO, because it was highly instanced and not an open persistent world. And if you look at the FAQ of the original GW game, won't find the claim anywhere that it is an MMO, or that it's persistent. The developers have clearly stated (on multiple occasions) that GW2 IS a full MMO, and has a big open persistent world. The game mechanics are completely different from those of the original Guild Wars, and the whole instancing thing from the original GW is almost completely gone... instancing is only used for some very specific situations (your own personal story missions, and 5-man dungeons). Everything else happens in the same big persistent world. So the reason why the developers didn't call the original game an MMO, is gone in GW2. To quote lead content designer Colin Johanson: "Guild Wars 2 is a giant, open, massive mmo. There are hundreds or thousands of players playing together in maps in the game. It is a true mmo." I hope that settles that.

When Guild Wars 2 was announced right before Eye of the North was released, ArenaNet said GW2 was going to be a full MMO. OP is way behind the times.

Guild Wars 2 is not like Guild War 1, it's like WoW and other big ones where it's one large server with thousands of people playing the same land, not instanced zones.

Well it is Massive, It is Multiplayer and it is Online. Also, unlike Guild Wars 1, it takes place in a persistant world.

So yes, Guild Wars 2 is as much of an mmo as WoW, SWTOR and EverQuest are.

Well it was announced when they first started development, basically to explain to everyone why there wouldn't be any more additions to Guild Wars every six months.

Did you just imply that there are stuff to do in modern MMOs outside of instanced zones? Because that exactly is the problem with the WoW style of MMO, no stuff to do outside of instanced zones and battlegrounds.

they can consider it the best thing since bread but that doesn't make it true, its a mmorpg, and it will be compared since thats probably the most competitive genre around

Guild Wars 1 was instanced with town portal hubs. Guild Wars 2 will feature a PERSISTENT world. It will be an MMORPG. Like Shadowhawk said, it's massive, it's multiplayer, and it's online. That's all you need.

To the OP, it is an MMO. It is in an open world which can support a massive amount of people, it is online and it is multiplayer. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck.

No, the problem with a WoW style of MMO is the combat feels boring combined with the fact that leveling isn't appealing in the least because of badly written fetch quests. No point in playing the 'end game' if the journey is boring as hell.

Probably now, but back when I played Vanilla WoW it was a great journey and the combat was fun as hell (still is in parts).

SWTOR is similar, just has voiced fetch quests...but I'm having a ball. Even my GF has tried it and loves it (and she doesn't like MMOs)

Those use something called RTWP. You also command a whole party of 6 as opposed to one character.

And while we are at it Baldur's Gate and Icewind dale had bad combat. Dungeons and Dragons should never been in Real Time. Why? Because the ruleset was built for turn based combat.

However, Baldur's Gate still had great gameplay. The battle system may have been pretty poor, but the encounter design made more than up for it.

Ok sorry, Next time I make a thread I will have to research a little more! I thought the Sequel was the same formula, guess not every game is like COD.

For the record I was never bashing the game I can't wait for it, seriously I wish it would hurry up! (Don't rush it though)
