To the OP, it is an MMO. It is in an open world which can support a massive amount of people, it is online and it is multiplayer. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck.

Did you just imply that there are stuff to do in modern MMOs outside of instanced zones? Because that exactly is the problem with the WoW style of MMO, no stuff to do outside of instanced zones and battlegrounds.
No, the problem with a WoW of MMO is the combat feels boring combined with the fact that leveling isn't appealing in the least because of badly written fetch quests. No point in playing the 'end game' if the journey is boring as hell.
Probably now, but back when I played Vanilla WoW it was a great journey and the combat was fun as hell (still is in parts).
SWTOR is similar, just has voiced fetch quests...but I'm having a ball. Even my GF has tried it and loves it (and she doesn't like MMOs)
