Greetings,

I liked the first Guild Wars quite a bit, but I also despised a great number of things about it. Among them was the instanced gameworld and the terrible animations. Well, I have been following Guild Wars 2 for quite some time, and I must say that it looks absolutely amazing. Like, very, very good, as to the point where it may be one of the greatest games ever.

This is a gameplay demo at PAX 2010 for people who have not seen it yet. This shows the character creation screen, fluid animations and the awesome looking combat, partly thanks to the physics engine they are implementing. Here is another video showing the Ranger profession, world map, obvious removal of invisible walls, some insane animations and combat, and the ability to finally jump and swim. They also said that everything in the game is supposed to be voiced, including all of the quest dialogue - something about how their script is equal to 60 full-featured films.

This is their main website with a pretty awesome teaser trailer.

I usually do not hype games very much unless they are coming from certain sources. As an example, I am fairly certain that Diablo III will be amazing, just because it is being developed by Blizzard.

Anyways, I was wondering what people thought about the game so far? Did you like the first Guild Wars? If no or yes, what do you think about the second?

There were so many things I hated about the first one. Quite disappointing, actually.

Game looks awesome, and I have no problem paying for some awesome dungeons. The game is worth it. People pay **** tons of money for 2 maps on shooter games. I rather spend my money on well constructed dungeons to raid and get some loot :D

Yeah, I don't know EXACTLY how it's gonna work yet...but I'm worried about GAME ADVANTAGES with Micro-Transactions like other MMOs have...

Guild Wars is awesome; I still play sometimes.

Guild Wars 2 is the only game I'm looking forward to right now; nothing else matters! :x

Like I said in the other topic, an article mentioned that the weapons and loot you get in those paid dungeons will not be more powerful than the loot you get outside of dungeons. The weapons and armor you get in those dungeons will be very visually pleasing and unique in each dungeon. I will find the source and link it when requested

Well if that's true then OK.... like I said, if it's only visually different and doesn't offer player advantage, it's fine...

Well, I purchased Guild Wars day one so the graphics and animations were not dated to me then. Present day, it's really dated now but I had a lot of fun while it lasted. Guild Wars 2 seems to have taken a giant step forward and may become the best-looking MMO to date. As far as gameplay goes, we'll have to wait and see. But if the first one was any constellation, GW2 will be a big hit.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/10/21/guild-wars-2-to-have-dlc-microtransactions/ UPDATE: Eric Flannum sent us a note to clarify a couple of things about their plans for Guild Wars 2 post-release content: "We haven't decided on what exactly we are or aren't going to offer for money post-release. We're open to whatever our players seem most interested in. If, after release, you guys would like more story content, more dungeons, more events, more maps or whatever, it's something that we have to consider because ultimately making you happy is what makes us successful. Whether we release that in DLC (like the bonus mission packs in GW1) or whether we do it through expansions (Like Eye of the North) is yet to be determined. As to whether or not there are going to be items like XP boosts available in the in game store, I can only reiterate what we've said before (and will continue to say,) that we'll release details on it when they are available, and that our core philosophy of not requiring you to spend additional money to play the game and not making the game difficult or painful to play in order to encourage you to buy things from the store still stands."

Right, but he didn't deny you could get items faster and easier by paying.... we will have to wait and see this outcome...

Knowing Anet's history with Guild Wars, and what they have said previously, I think its pretty safe to say that they will only add cash shop items that won't give you a distinct advantage over people who don't play.

noone would say that outright, and force themselves into a position like that (hello PR). also if you have played guildwars, the closest thing to a cash shop lets you buy costumes, skill packs, 1 mission pack, character name change, character slots, apart from the actual game/expansion. the reason im saying this is because in guildwars1 you could buy a pvp edition since FOREVER, which came with all the skills unlocked (rather than having to unlock them yourselves), this caused a bit of hoo haa in the community but it was pretty clear it brought no real advantage to the game and was meant for players who wanted to jump right into the pvp (note that arenanet likes to promote their organised gvg as an esport). since you can carry only 8 skills at once, and there were multiple ways to unlock any given skill anyway, most players came to not really caring. Clearly, no game developer representative would outright deny something so trivial like this. firstly, it could be misinterpreted; they may believe their store provides no advantage but players might, so better to avoid any backlash. second, everything is subject to change anyway so there is no point saying that it is set in stone.

i loved GW1 because it fixed everything i hate about the everquest type MMO. it was essentially a single player/co-op game online. from the option to use henchies to the low level (so no grinding..though there is an optional grind in the game now for those who want it) and the instanced areas and the fact that PVP was a completly different ball game....brilliant. the only thing i found frustrating was that arenanets business model didnt quite work. a new expansion every 6 months would have been great. each GW expansion that was released was brilliant. but the content took quite some time to come. from what i have heard and seen of GW2 it also looks to provide a different answer to everything i hate about the everquest type MMO....so fingers crossed. hopefully GW2 will also have a more constant stream of good quality content. i wouldnt mind coughing up a few bob for shorter stories and smaller amounts of content between the big releases (assumign there going for big releases like GW1). the odd sorrows furnace type release for 5 quid would be awesome.

Well the 1 issue i see with this game is actually a big one.

10 skills, first 5 are determined by your weapon, 6th is your designated self heal slot, and your 10th is your designated elite skill slot. that leaves 3 skills which you can choose at your will. WTF?

What i can learn from this is that Every sincle charr axe/shield warrior will have basically the exact same skill set. that is just complete BS, i do hope this dosent make it into the final game. im also surprised there isnt more people mad about this, i mean making new builds was half the fun in GW.
