Well, the graphics are much less cartoony than WoW, has next to no grinding aspect, and gets you to max level in a matter of days. Its almost the polar opposite of WoW. It really is a great game if you're willing to spend time on it (although I don't). The whole level system leaves you feeling a bit jibbed, and the armor variety is nowhere near as vast as WoW. That said it is a very technical game and can be very challenging in GvG, although those elite asian guilds can get annoying with their awesomeness and ease of kicking the crap out of your humble guild. Buy factions first.
Yes, it is.
Its never been a better time to jump into Guild Wars then now, ArenaNet has been making upgrades to the game since its inception, and an expansion is on the horizon later this year.
Best bets: Buy Guild Wars (the original, often called Prophecies) and GW: Nightfall, these will provide you with a solid foundation for the game. Buy Factions only if you are a huge fan of PvP.
Go with Guild Wars but get the 1st or 3rd one if you like pve more. Get the 2nd one if you like pvp more.
I can fully reccomend all of them. I love Guild Wars.
I recommend getting them all and then combine them.:)
I used to play WoW, but the quests got repetive and I got fed up with high level instances. A year an a half ago I started playing GW and I have been playing ever since. Juste make sure that you give it more than 10 minutes... get to level 20 and do some real cooperative stuff.
Oh yeah, many others have said this already... Faction = PvP
Prophecies and Nightfall = Pve

omg, i covered this already. Factions has crap skills and classes for pvp. Prophecies and Nightfall are much more important if you plan on doing guild vs. guild and such.
So my friend is getting the game Guild Wars( Factions or Nightfall )and he told me to get it to and that its really good game.I really did not enjoy WOW and the cartoon like graphics so please tell if you would recomend this game or if it is anything like WOW.flavian2
After you get through the coop missions, you can play pvp or team vs team, which is what this game is all about in the end. Thus, unless you like tvt or pvp, this might not be the game for you. I think the game does fill a void and puts a lot of players together without MMO fees. It also looks great, some of the best RPG landscapping anywhere.
GW is a great game, better than WoW in someway, but it's just not atrue MMO. Graphics is much better than WoW for sure, I just dont understand why more people are playing WoW than GW and it's free online. I think bcuz of WoW is a true MMO..... I have both games anyway just for the hell of it.
Ive heard that Guild Wars is alot easier then WoW, leveling and getting gear wise. Guys in my guild in WoW have said that its not as fun as WoW and gets boring after awhile.TheBigShame
Thanks, what do your Wow guildies think the next winning lottery ticket #s will be???

86k? Buy some awesome-looking armor with it, or invest in Signets of Capture and get most of the elite skills.

it's odd how nobody mentions that ArenaNet is currently working on Guildwars 2. potentially, it could mean thatthe current generation is on its way out, regardless of the upcoming update The Eye of the North ( which is, if i'm not mistaken, connected to GW2's storyline as well ).
when GW2 hits the shelf, there's gonna be ahugecommunity migration, not to mention the current community is already well past its prime. Anet states that they would keep supporting GW as long as people play it, true, but the thing is, how many would stay? more importantly, data between GW and GW2 is NOT transferable. which means, TC, that if you're planning to invest a good amount of time on GW your effort will soon be wasted.
but, if that's not the case, and you're only hoping to check the game out, by all means, go ahead. it has been a great game afterall. :)

Our current project, Guild Wars: Eye of the North, is our first true expansion, and one that we truly feel is a fitting coda that will guide players through the end of one epic story into the next evolution of the series, Guild Wars 2. We want Guild Wars to go out with a bang and leave a lasting impression on players, so we've decided to delve deep into RPG history in an attempt to recreate the thrill of the ****c dungeon crawl.
Funny that he refers to it as GW:EN ;)

i'm not sure what this reply means...so, GW is gonna "go out with a bang and leave a lasting impression". cool. if that's what the TC wants,to go out in a bang with a lasting impression instead of a lasting experience andcommunity, then by all means, buy GW.

GW2 is coming out in 2009-10, so they'll support it for at least another year and a half - leaving plenty of time to enjoy the game.
Furthermore, data IS transferable between GW1 and 2 - your GW2 descendant will inherit weapons, armor, minipets and titles from your GW1 characters.
about the data transfer....are you sure? coz my guild master told me otherwise. but if you are sure, or better yet, you can show me some official evidence, then by all means please. i will stand corrected :) Jinroh_basic

Read the bottom part about the Hall of Monuments.
Cheers,

from what i understand, that feature will record your achievement and titles, and will furthermore grant you special access to certain perks in GW2.
it does NOT, however, allow you to transfer your data. by data transfer i meantransferring my existingweapons, runes, and characters from GW to GW2. apparently, i am right.data isnot transferable.

Well, obviously your characters won't be imported into GW2, as the sequal is set one hundred years after the events of the first game. Sure, they could explain it all 'with magic'...but that would penalise long-time players by forcing them all to be human, when there are other races to play in GW2.
Your characters' titles, weapons, companions (heroes and pets), minipets and attire - possibly including runes (unless they re-work/scrap that system) - can be inherited, so...yeah, pretty much everything will be transferred into the next game. Even your characters' names will be reserved, from what I've heard.
I've played GW more than any sane person, and I'm going to tell you the truth.
GW was MAGICAL back when it came out, but the expansions are lame. Since there is no action back on the regular GW, it's really a waste of time.
So, GW was a classic game, but look at it this way: It's like going back to play Diablo two years later when no one else is on the servers and the rest of the people have moved on to the disgusting 'stand alone expansions'
You pay for what you get. The obvious thing to do here is to compare it with WoW since i played both.
The main difference is the original game of the guildwars follows a story...there is so story in wow. The other guildwars follow a story but its poor compared to the original gw. Somone said that you get to max lvl quicker in gw, not true there is no max level. However they were right that you feel cheated. At level 20 you sort of bugger about not sure what to do whereas in WoW theres lvl60 to hit nd the quests just keep on coming.
Theres a lot more depth to WoW. The proffesions give it an entirerly different level to gw. Theres more to do and you get a sense of purpose in the world, your a blacksmith or miner etc... GW you are a hero and thats that.
If you dont want to pay the 10 quid a month then GW is deffinetly for you, but WoW offers so much more and if your willing to play it to lvl 60/70 then its worth the cost. All depends on whether u want a long term mmorpg-WoW or whether u want a short term fill in ur summer mmorpg-GW
Fact - assassins and ritualists are the least favoured classes in PvP, and chapter 2 skills are relatively weak in pvp, therefore chapter 2 is the worst choice for pvp (and pve for that matter).F1_2004
What are you talking about? There are assassins EVERYWHERE...
Well guys, thanks for posting, its been a few weeks and I bought the game so far in lvl 10 its pretty good so far
thanks for posting;)
flavian2
What version did you end up buying?
GW was good looking and easy to pick up and play... but after a few weeks and a handful of quest, the flare kind of simmers away. Worth checking out, but heed my warning... you can't jump in the game :cry:You can type an emotion command that allows you to "hop", but other than that, the game is a decent MMODreski83
Please, Please, Please tell me why jumping is so important in action MMO that has nothing to do with platforming or has any gameplay that would require jumping.
actually, it does feel quite inconvenient, and at times frustrating -- especially when you are forced to take a long detour, which is infested with enemies, just to go down a ledge less than 3 metres high. ultimately, the tactical options available are severely limited in GW. you either kill them or outrun them.
but of coz, that's the nature of GW, i think. there's definitely less freedom in maneuvering, but luckily, the combat is very engaging. i must admit, i do hope we can jump :)
