What is "SWTOR"? I voted GW2. I can't wait til that game releases. That and Diablo 3 are the only games I am hyped for.

1- people cannot judge/compare games just because of subscription fees, that is just plain stupid. 2- people seem to forget that NCSoft also brought out the failed Aion...(diff devs) 3- BioWare AND lucasarts are behind ToR, too BIG names, lots of money 4- ToR CAN'T fail at the start, just the lore is enough to have a million subscribers. Look up the videos of the conventions. 5- a lot of people say they loved GW1, remember GW2 is different Summary: BOTH will sell lots and have a healthy population. I see ToR still going strong by the time GW3 comes out

Seriously though, there's something about the general quality of experience in Pay-to-play MMO's that free ones like GW can't match (in my opinion, obviously).

I totally agree. Althought LOTRO has gone F2P now, it started off as a subscription model and that's why it is of high quality. Apart from GW1 (which really isn't an MMO), I haven't yet played a FREE MMO which is as good as a paid one...

Agreed. I'm really starting to think that people who love Guild Wars so much haven't really played any P2P MMO's.

In this day and age, I just don't see why ANYONE, unless you're a really loyal fan of a particular series, buying a MMO with a subscription fee on day one which equates to about $65-75. Especially with the amount of MMOs that are just plain garbage every year, they don't deserve my money, or my time for that matter. Yes, in the case of WOW, if I actually cared, I would pay all that money on day one and I will continue to pay the subscription fee as long as I enjoy it, but the publishers are really giving no incentive at all for people to buy these type of games on release date. They're most probably gonna have to go free to play anyway, just look at APB, Champions Online, or LOTR.

In the case of Bioware's SWTOR, I believe they're gonna do pretty well at first, but die out just like the rest. Unless there is something mindblowing about it, and not just sugar coating and wild exagerations by hardcore Star Wars fans (which I believe is to be the main reason why it's so popular in the first place), it will fade out just like the rest.

I am personally putting my money on Guild Wars 2

GW2 is an automatic buy as it has no subscription so I rate it ahead of SWTOR.

DeViLzzz

You can't really rate a game based just on it's price...

No you can't just rate a game based on the price. However I am basically saying as a former WOW player I am more likely to try GW2 out first and see if I can get the same experience from that raid wise as I did in WOW but enjoy it even more by not paying a subscription. I think anyone that plays mmorpgs knows they are time sinks so better to see if the one time fee only game is better than something you will spend $15 per month to play. It just makes financial sense ... doh !

But by that explanation SWTOR should be an automatic buy too? since the only way to see if it's worth $15 x month is to actually play it?

Don't believe the marketing, there isn't a single RPG that doesn't have grinding, MMOs just have more because they're insanely big compared to limited RPGs that focus on short but great experiences (they're great only because they don't last enough to show the common flaws of RPGs). An RPG that has 0 grinding would take way too much to develop, not even Blizzard is close to such a thing and they take a lot of time to make content and variety, nowadays for almost all developers, 2 years is more than enough for games.

Definitely GW2 because there's no subscription. Anybody knows if there's the straight to max level pvp feature like how GW1 had?

gw2 has no sub fee?thats bad, cause i heard it is a mmorpg not an online rpg so its either going to be of lesser quality or have in game stores etc that sell xp boosts and unbalance the game(with the rare exception of it selling only cosmetic items). Now that i think of it i remember hearing that you will have to purchse some dungeons, which sounds very lame, correct me if im wrong.Swtor doesnt look like a mmo at all, bioware is going to fail hard on this one

yes. when characters enter pvp they automatically get upgraded to max level/weapons/armor.

guild wars 1 has microtransaction type thing going on, you can buy character slots, storage panes, cosmetic items. but nothing too bad i believe the dungeon-purchase thing was a misquote on a pcgamer interview.

Meh. I'll probably try out a trial first before I actually make any decisions to buy it. Not really impressed by any of the videos so far, to be perfectly honest.

(/QUOTE)

Can't help but post. First, GW1 didn't have grind unless you wanted optional titles at end game. Going from the start of the game to the end you basically played one huge storyline that led you across the continent (And other continents with expansions). While I didn't like it very much, it already has anti grind philosophy and the storyline is important.

GW2 has anti-grind philosphies around it, and a storyline with choices to be made. Now, while SWTOR seems to be relying on story telling to be its most innovative and important feature, GW2 also has it, and they're changing up combat and questing (DEs), because these two areas are the most stale part of playing an MMO.

GW1 didn't do it and it's B2P. GW2 will be B2P as well, so don't expect any Asian MMO **** here.
