Lawl, scared of HL2? The only game that really scares me good is Penumbra Overture. JigglyWiggly_
Play Penumbra.. Makes you feel safe at night.

Haha, I'd like see these sheep try and play Penumbra. Then they'd see what horror is. I'm one of those sheep.. I couldn't handle Penumbra.
I've played HL2 and Dead Space and I can definitely say that they're not scary. But oh how damn atmospheric. Especially Dead Space.
And then there's STALKER. Now that game is creepy. But still not horrifying.
The scariest games out there are the Penumbra and Thief seriers, IMO.
HAHA, you think it's scary now. Just wait until you get to Ravenholm.Im in the beggining of the game and im already really scared. Im at the part where im in the underground railroad. You should see my face while I play this game. I even fell out of my seat once because those plant things on the ceiling got me. Does anyone else think this game is scary.

LOL, yea half life is not scary, the only part that is freaky is ravenholm, wait till you get to episode 1 where the elevator is stuck[QUOTE="Memoryitis"][QUOTE="ZuluEcho14"]Yeah I also thought it was scary before my balls dropped.Macutchi
my favourite when-the-lights-go-out moment in a game
Didn't every elevator in half-life get stuck?
Overall, HL2 is not that scary, but Ravenholm was the only exception. Poison Head Crabs were really weird and creepy, the fast running zombie(the ninja-like one) was also pretty creepy, but the scariest dude was the poison crab zombie carrier(the one who throws poison crabs at you).

Dead Space is not scary, but Thief is? what's wrong with your head, young man? Penumbra was good. Still nothing like good ol' Silent Hill.[QUOTE="Macutchi"]

Dead Space is not a scarry game, its a horror game. I think its a difference. Emphasizing on just visual and sound its not enough, how about psychological? ex:
-Little girl, were is daddy?
-Daddy's not home.
-Mommy?
-Mommy's locked in the basement.
-Why?
-Mommy bites!
[Call of Cthulhu]
And it was clear she couldn't go on!
The door was opened and the wind appeared,
The candles blew and then disappeared,
The curtains flew and then he appeared,
Said, "Don't be afraid, Come on, Mary,"
And she had no fear And she ran to him
And they started to fly . . .
She had taken his hand . . .
"Come on, Mary;
Don't fear the Reaper!"
[Its a copy-paste from Stephen Kings - The Stand and its still in my head after one year, i don't think i remember what i did in mission...4 in any "scarry game".]

The Cradle. And people saying "LOL YOU SO SILLY PLAY DEAD SPACE LIKE REAL MEN"... Dead Space wasn't scary. Seriously, aren't we past shock and gore horror? I suppose Hostel, SAW and the Texas Chain Saw Massacre remake are scary as well?I bought the ornage box a week ago, I agree Half Life 2 has scary moments and is extremely tense at times. However i would say that Episode one is possibly the scariest games ive played in years, that bit were your waiting for the elevator and the only light source is your flashlight and hordes of zombies are running at you and Alyx i had to go to the toilet frequently.

Well I can only speak for myself. All I can say is that Dead Space was an adrenaline rush. I was taken aback at times by its goriness and intensity, especially when you enter a room that seems quite enough and you get SWARMED by enemies.
Meanwhile, I have always been very discomforted by the Thief games. I remember, in one of them, there was a cave that was nearly pitch-black and there was some.. goddamn evil giant spider there. I quit the game after that. But I've [tried playing] other Thief games as well, and besides the extremely creepy level design, there was one thing it had that made is especially horrifying - you do not feel like you're all powerful. The only thing you have on your side is stealth.
This is in direct contrast to Dead Space. No matter how scary the level design was, there was one thing I could count on, and that was that I could still take them on!!!
Even if it was 5 zombies coming at me, I had a huge arsenal of directly applicable (i.e. useful for that particular situation) weapons available to me, albeit with sparse ammo.
Penumbra was similarly scary. In the first game, you go down into a cave, and you have to sneak past a wolf in basically pitch black darkness. And the wolf would always find me. And all I had with me was.. get ready for this - a rock :o
I hope this gave some context as to why I feel that Thief = Penumbra > Dead Space = STALKER in terms of scariness. And no, I haven't played Silent Hill or Tower of Terror, but I bet those are scary as hell.
