If you can get it cheap and havn't played it on XBox already, then sure.. don't expect anything new. Dated graphics, exactly the same as what everyone experienced 2 years ago. Offers nothing really new to the FPS genre, and you NEED windows Vista to play.Rattlesnake_8
Ahem* you meanTHREE years..
If you enjoy the Halo series, than definitely yes. It's really that simple. Halo 2 wasn't as good as the original, but it does setup the final chapter of the trilogy quite well.
its 3 years old, graphics are crap, requires vista, and same old thing from 3 years ago, almost everyone has beaten it several times, why pay another penny for it?ncderek
Not only that but the hardware requirements are through the roof. Even far cry looks better than this game.
this is the pc games forum so people here think halo 2 suxors, because halo is only a huge hit in the console worldchat2
yea but it really is bad. There are many many better FPSes than Halo 2. besides, I am not paying $50 for a 3 year old port...
Lets put this into perspective:
You can spend 50+ dollars for a 3 year old game that, honestly, doesnt come close to touching even a vanilla game like Quake 4 or Prey. Or...
You can spend 30 dollars for the FEAR expansion, or 40 dollars for FEAR Gold Version
Spend 35 dollars for C&C: The First Decade; thats like a dozen great games for the price of one!
Go out and buy a game that doesnt fall into the category of crap, something new such as X3, Darwinia, Shattered Union...diversify your portfolio, bi***!
Even better, give me the money and I will kick you in the nuts and then buy you a bag of frozen peas so you can stop the swelling.

I think it's hilarious that the OP asked if Halo 2 was worth it, and basically everyone felt the need to chime in and give their OPINION on how horrible Halo is. Seriously, grow up people. If it was any other game, people would have been more sensible, and said something along the lines of "try the demo", or "if you liked the first one, give it a shot", but because it's Halo, it's like a PC gamer's duty to just put it down. Do you realize how silly most of you look with this knee-jerk reaction you give to this franchise?
At least give specific reasons why it's not your cup of tea, I'm scrolling through all these replies and all I see is "It sucks! Silly console shooter..." or " 3 year old port with bad graphics". The game still plays well, looks good(not great, but good), tells a pretty good story, introduced dual-wielding, new vehicles, large environments, let you play as the Covenant and see the story from that point of view, and comes with great multiplayer.
Now, this is my opinion, but at least I explained myself. I swear, everytime a Halo topic gets made here, the topic's repliesseem to bepulled straight out of System Wars. I thought us PC gamers we're above that.

Halo 2 is not worth it because:
I remember playing it on xbox and it was extremely boring. I actually took a nap after playing it, and while they made improvements to it I dont see why the PC version should be any different.
I also cant justify spending full price for a game that is over three years old, even if they add a bunch of bells and whistles.
Halo 2 for PC also requires the use of a new, expensive, and unproven operating system. This is perhaps the greatest offense imo to the average PC gamer...I mean, why? There just isnt an excuse.
And as for "us PC gamers we're above that" I dont think you can put anything past us. Sure, we enjoy quality games and whatnot but sometimes a game comes along and we cant help but get dragged down into the mud. Its the same reason we say Big Rigs sucks even though we've never played it, the same reason some of us prefer ATI to nvidia, and its the same reason some of us outright detest Halo 2 for PC...its called a gut feeling, and I have no doubt that if I had Vista andI bought Halo 2 that I would regret it.
I won't buy it for 2 reasons:
1. It should have been released for PC when the X-Box version was released but Microsoft is greedy, even though they have more money than God, and they want to sell more consoles, as if that is a problem for them. Releasing it only for the XBox forces people to buy a console to play it. I hate it when companies try to force my hand like that. Not falling for it.
2. For the very same reasons Microsoft is only releasing a Vista version of the game for PC. That is utter bullsh!t and everyone that owns a PC knows it but people will still spend hundreds of their hard earned $$$ to upgrade their PC so they canplay an old game that takes 10 hours or less to play and make Microsoft richer in the process. It's crap and I simply refuse to buy into it even if Halo 2 got a "10" and won the Game of the Year award.
Microsoft needs to stop using these heavy handed, or tricky, tactics to force people into buying their "latest and greatest". As big as they are they don't need to do that any more and it just makes them look really bad.

couldn't agree with you more but....
you forgot the 3rd reason - even if Halo 2 was THAT awesome game - you wouldn't buy a crappy OS that 1/2 of games will have problems running on it

I agree that being Vista-only is ridiculous. And I agree that the game is not as good as its predecessor, and that compared to the likes of some of the best PC shooters, it doesnt hold up. It just pushes my buttons when I see a Halo topic, and it ALWAYS turns into a flamewar. I just feel I need to stand up for a franchise that deserves praise for what it does. It's no HL, but its also not as bad as a lot of people say it is.I do agree that PC standards are higher, but even then , I'd say the Halo franchise is in the upper-end of the ladder. But in the end, to each his own.

Thats fair and I truly think I unerstand your perspective, but this is the whole issue I have and why I beleive in a separate but equal treatmant between console and PC. Halo 2 is a good game...on console. Hell I admit I even had a little fun with it. But Halflife 2 came out roughly the same time and after playing Halo 2 on my roomates 360, and then going back to Halflife 2, I just couldnt believe the difference. It was like reading the worst book you ever read in middle school and then reading your favorite Calvin and Hobbes book.
And its not just Halflife 2...its FEAR, Doom 3, Quake 4, Far Cry, and all those other shooters of the past and then future. And most of those shooters are fairly vanilla on the PC platform.
If Halo 2 is the best FPS that consoles can muster, then fine. But shame on Microsoft for doing all these tricks and, for all I care, making Halo2 the sole reason a gamer should get Vista. Its almost like they know how to take advantage of their market; they see gamers, people with a large disposable income and an addiction to purchasing the newest technology, and they take an old game and give it unreasonable requirements (i.e. Vista). I mean...why? Why do we need Vista to play Halo 2? Is there a genuinely good reason? Raise your hand if you would buy Halo 2 if it were compatable with XP *raises hand*
Most of all, I am just disappointed in Microsoft. Call me crazy, but when you get a publisher with near-infinite resources and a developer such as Bungiewith a rich history (Oni, Myth series) I just expect a lot more. The Halo series is a great series for console, but dont ruin your reputation with greed and by alienating your consumers.
I feel a little rediculous boycotting a game out of principle, to be honest. But frankly a game as average as Halo 2 with requirements as unreasonable as it has is just wrong.
This question is better asked on the Halo 2 boards. There you will get opinions from people that actually played the game unlike here.DeihmosI've played it, and I own it. It sucks.

Sure you do. Since it wasn't worth it 3 years ago why on earth would you get it now for PC.

I didn't, I'm not that stupid. I own it for XBOX. And since it's the same game, it sucks. Slightly improved graphics don't warrant a buy for a game that was mediocre 3 years ago. Most of all, I am just disappointed in Microsoft. Oni was an absolute POS. My worst(thankfully when it came out my mom's) Worst purchasing decision ever.
.....sorry I just had to say it :D

Ya, it wasnt well received by critics or the public but if you gotta past the quirky nature of the game it was a great blend of hand to hand and gun combat. Very cool art direction as well...I remember it was almost cell-shaded in a way (like TF2).
