Have you ever tried updating components through Device Manager?

Sometimes while I am interneting I will open device manager, select a component, and try to update it. I'll just go down the list. I don't think I have EVER seen it actually find and install updates. Has anyone actually been able to score an update that way?

I don't trust Windows to find my driver updates. If I built the PC, I make note of what hardware I put in and bookmark the appropriate manufacturer's websites. If I didn't or it is a prebuilt, it's usually a bit more work to determine what is inside and find the right drivers.

I had my computer prebuilt and I don't know what half the stuff is in there.
