I recently bought a new blu ray player, Samsung BD-D6500, and I am trying to watch a blu ray on my tv through component cables. I know I will not be able to watch 1080p through these cables and I am limited to 1080i but my tv is showing that I'm watching it in 480i. The tv I have is a mitshubishi medallion 65" that is capable of 1080p. I have set the blu ray player to play in 1080i and have looked trough the tv menu to see if there was an option to change the resolution, no luck. I have double checked the connections as well. If anyone knows something to help me out please respond!!!!
Just get some HDMI cable, it will allow for a better picture than component. Also, 1080P Blu-Ray is stunning. I bought a blu ray player today and i love it. Shame I only have a 720p TV for now. Still it looks great though.
However, I do have a question of my own, may aswell "borrow" your thread, rather than create another. Some films have black borders, I understand that some films are in 16:9 aspect ratio, but I have a 16:9 TV. Are the borders meant to be there, or is there a setting I need to change ?
Component can do 1080i no problem (1080p too although bluray will not output it over component). Unfortunately this past year, new players were forced to down convert all analog outputs to 480p or 576i. Older players almost all output 1080i as the max on component. Thank Hollywood for screwing the consumer especially since many high end installs run component over long runs because it works better over long runs.
