I wont bother.

I emailed gamespot customer support and they told me this and then i provided them the reason that it was unintentional and the ban was lifted.

He been wrong about so many things, where do we even begin. Its not his fanboyism, but his lack of PC knowledge, use of old reviews, not up to date, does bring fanboyism to the table, has been corrected so many times by many people on here.

He should really just stick to what he knows and not what he "thinks" he knows. OR quit acting like a big shot PC HArdware person, when really, he just built his first PC.

People are wrong on here all the time. A lot of the topics here are subjective and very debatable. People who consider themselves "big shot PC hardware people" should do a better job of imparting their knowledge and helping people learn instead of berating people for being wrong or having differing views.

PC Hardware is a very complex and constantly evolving topic and most people are because of the common interest in the subject and the desire to discuss and learn.

If you have been here as long as I have. You will see more and more of the knowledgable people have left for Unions. Because of the frustrations we put up with in PC Hardware forums. There are about 30 regular hardware people that were on everyday here, but have had to deal with people like Thinker, more and more fanboys and more along those lines. So we have left for Unions, so we dont have to deal with this stuff.

This Forum use to be full of people that would do nothing but correct people and help them out. Then people like Thinker came along, gave us headaches and we left. I was one of the last people to leave to a Union. They just pop in here time to time.

Anwyays, Im out of here as I got warned. So no more for me.

This guy is really pushing me over the edge and well I really cant believe hes still around. Anyways, good luck with this thread, hope all people enjoy this fanboy and his lack of knowledge and his great knowledge of misinformation. I wouldnt listen to him if I were you.

Anyways, enjoy Thinker everyone. Im out.

Fair enough. This is a public forum. People with limited knowledge and loyalties to one company or another are always going to come here and will never go away. If that frustrates you then a union of more serious gamers is definitely the place for you. I just hate to see any type of "ownership" of the forum from regulars here. Everyone is welcome to come and discuss and has the right not to be ridiculed for a lack of knowledge.

I am the leader of my union, but came as a Officer and then had the Union given to me.

I used to be a pretty heavy duty gamer, but have stopped playing CAL. I now just pub and sometimes scrim in UT or CSS. But I am more into hardware then serious gaming now. IF by serious you mean competitive. If not, then yes I am serious at gaming.

I purchased a Powercolor HD3850 512MB 720/900 for just under £115 and I must say its awesome for its price. I'm running Crysis all High at 1280 x 720 with a min of 25 FPS fantasic. I doubt it compares to the 8600GT I don't know, I havent seen anywhere, I have seen however the HD3850 compared to the 384MB/768MB 8800GS as well as the 256MB 8800GT, Your best bet is checking Tom's Hardware on GPU scores of 2007 and then I suppose its all down to you and your wallet. If it were me to say though, then if you can afford it get the 512MB verson of the HD3850.

All the 8600GT benchmarks were done around April 2007 with horrible drivers. Those charts show that the 8600GT gets the same performance or a little better then a 7600GT. Theres new drivers out now that make a huge difference over those dated drivers. So those reviews are old. I couldn't even max Unreal Tournament 3 @ 1024x768 with a solid 30fps (with a 7600GT) now I play UT3 maxed @ 1280x1024 with a solid 40fps. Also Crytek released a new patch for Crysis with increased SLI performance and two 8600GT's own a single HD3850 using that patch.

that might actually be a moot point im saying it did or didn't but can't the same thing be said about the 3850 drivers ?

[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]The HD3850 gets around 16,000-17,000 in 3DMark05. I get 10,500 with one XFX XXX 8600GT. When I SLI them I will be getting over 20,000. In 3DMark06 I get 5760. The HD3850 gets around 9000-10000. With SLI 8600GT's I will get around 10,000-11,000. The 8600GT I got was $79 after rebate. I will be getting another one so it actaually costs less after rebates then one HD3850. And XFX has a double lifetime warrenty.yoyo462001

you MIGHT get double the numbers in some little program but when it comes to gaming guess which one gives you alot better performance ? last time i checked sli doesn't come close to giving you double performance the 3850 wins easy

Its kind of funny that a HD3850 gets under 30fps in a 3 year old game like Oblivion on max settings @ 1280x1024. 8600GT in SLI gets 40 fps.

care to show your links because i was just looking around and tomshardware dissaproves your statement along with the oblivion test on anandtech its showing around 30fps on 1900x1200

EDIT- every benchmark ive been strolling through shows the 3850 getting for the most part double the performance of a single 8600gt doesn't look like sli can compete with this one since your not gettings double the performance its most like 30-60%

LOL I was going to say the SAME DAMN THING! but chose the latter in the end.

EDIT: I was going to use the Anand benches though.

what is everyone on about the Hd3850 getting double the performance... first of all 3D is a synthetic test so you cannot base your whole argument on those numbers, second youd have to be extremely misinformed to think the Hd3850 gets the performance, even the 8800GT DOES NOT get double the performance in most games but it does in some like half life2 the HD3850 is around 40-50% better than the 8600GT... (and please dont quote tomshardwarwe there benchmarks are awful)

I'm going to make 2 suggestions about your comment:

First, read the quoted field again.

Second, actually follow my link, it says "Anand," so I'm not sure how you were confused on where it leads...

P.S. After looking at your sig I realize why you are so defensive. :P

lol if you look at my comments i am referring to the entire "debate", if you look in what ive quoted someone has mentioned tomshardware

i know its not a great source the reason i was using it was because its pretty much the only way you can compare the 8600gt sli vs the 3850 the other source i used was anandtech which blew off that whole 1280x1024 statement which was BS

Just because you go SLi/CrossFire, it doesn't mean that you get double the 3DMark points.

It almost doubles. I remember having 6800Ultra in SLI and scoring 11,000 in 3DMark03 with one then getting SLI and scoring 19,000+. It may not double but it almost does.

eh maybe its because probaly 80% of my post go on the pc boards alone and no offense but a good amount of stuff you say isn't true like ibuypower is a good brand , 2x 8600gt will beat a 3850, we have never studied evolution,, any quad core is better than a dual, quad cores will be alot better in a year because almost every game will support it, just to name a few recent ones im not saying everyone is perfect and makes no mistakes but it seems like everytime you post you don't think about what your typing

[QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]The HD3850 gets around 16,000-17,000 in 3DMark05. And XFX has a double lifetime warrenty.nVidiaGaMer

Just because you go SLi/CrossFire, it doesn't mean that you get double the 3DMark points.

EDIT: What? Thinker is back? :| Fark sake, not again...

It almost doubles. I remember having 6800Ultra in SLI and scoring 11,000 in 3DMark03 with one then getting SLI and scoring 19,000+. It may not double but it almost does.

3DMark scores are horrible benchmarks for actual game performance, its basically good for judging one GFX setup against another JUST for 3DMark. Thats why any respectable site not only uses 3DMark but actual games for their benches.

1. I know the HD3850 is allot better but is it worth spending the extra $100?

(Ceapest 8600GT $97 US, Cheapest HD3850 $195 US..in Australia)

2. Also is the a difference in graphics not just performance?

3. And if im going to spend an extra $100 bucks i could afford to get 2 8600GT's and set up SLI....is that a better idea ?

4. Or is there a price cut coming soon or a new budget card i should wait for?

cyprusxx

if your from the US you can buy a 3850 for about $160

alsao the 3850 is alot better then the 8600

buy it i play crysis on high with some stuff on medium at 12X10 at about 25-30FPS

Agreed. I remember when I was on the phone with an ATi support rep and explaining how their card was getting poorer than normal performance in spite of trying nearly every driver, update, patch or what-have-you they suggested to me. Almost inevitably, their argument for why it was still good was using 3DMark. As I explained to him calmly (and later not-so because he kept pressing the issue)...

Look, I don't **** play 3DMark, so parroting off some 3DMark score is **** useless. So is using GLExcess as a parameter of performance. I play Half Life 2, Doom 3, Quake 3, actual games! It's not like you guys haven't tweaked your drivers to get an artificially boosted 3DMark score, either. Remember quack3 ?

At that point he stopped pressing it, and probably realized I knew what I was talking about.

How exactly is he proven wrong there? Whether or not it is worth $50 to have someone build a computer for you is completely subjective. How is there a right or wrong answer? For some, it's totally worth it while others would never dream of paying someone do it for them. It's all a matter of opinion.

You should read the entire thread and you will see why he asked that.

Hmmm did i miss where i was proven wrong:question:

The only real argument was that people like to build their own PC's and actually like to face problems. And i never actually said that pre-built PC's are better than custom made even though there was an argument about pre-built PC's you would find me never praising pre-builts.This argument is so subjective nobody can be proven wrong in this. You cannot unfortunately understand that.

To the OP...

You might also want to consider the HD2900Pro as well. It's a little more power hungry than the HD3850, but cheaper...

SAPPHIRE 100222L Radeon HD 2900PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 $159.99

as opposed to...

SAPPHIRE 100226L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 $184.99

The HD2900Pro is roughly as strong as the 8800GTS 320MB, or the HD3850...as long as your PSU is up for it...

A quick reference page ---->LINK

I have a Sapphire HD3850 256mb. Yesterday I installed OmegaDrivers and patch 1.2 for Crysis. I realized I was getting a pretty large fps boost, so decided to turn up the graphics and see how it went. I turned everything to high @ 1440x900 resolution, and to my suprise, was staying on or above 30 fps (this is on the first level). I ran the GPU benchmark and got an average fps of 29.6.:o If I would have tried these settings with retail Crysis and 7.11 Catalyst Drivers, I would get like 10-20 fps, no joke.

Moral of the story, as time goes on 3850 performance is going up, and price is going down. A nice combination.:D

Course 8800 gt prices are coming down too.:P

you MIGHT get double the numbers in some little program but when it comes to gaming guess which one gives you alot better performance ? last time i checked sli doesn't come close to giving you double performance the 3850 wins easy

Its kind of funny that a HD3850 gets under 30fps in a 3 year old game like Oblivion on max settings @ 1280x1024. 8600GT in SLI gets 40 fps.

Uh, what are you taking about. I run oblivion @1440x900 max settings and I get nothing below 40 fps, but most of the time I'm at 60 fps (vsync). Also, Oblivion is definetly one of the most demanding games out there, mostly due to the fact that the coding is pretty darn junky.

Oh, I just saw your screename, now it all makes sense....

this is just my humble opinion. I've just recently upgrade to a 3870 from a 1900xtx. For all I know the 1900xtx is faster than the 8600gt or gts. I used to get around 26,27 FPS on an x1900xtx on crysis with all thing on high and res at 1024x768. With the 3870 i get 42 fps at 12x10. Also my old 3dmrk06 score was around 6500 and with the new card i got 11000 so i actually got a pretty big boost over the x1900xtx at least 70% boost for sure. I'll try other games later to be sure tho.
