Hi there. I currently have an X1950 Pro (512) and it's starting to show it's age with the latest games, a couple of questions:

Which is preferable between the 8800GT and the 3870XT.

How much better is the 4870XT?

I'm running at 1900x1200 with the rest of the system being fine. 2 gigs RAM, E6600 @ 3GHz etc...

Many thanks in advance.

the 8800 gt is a great card .... as i own it...but i would go with the 4870 radeon...ive seen benchies in maximum pc and it performs at 75% of the gtx280 and its half the price. so its a great deal. doesnt require much power either

im running an e6600 also and i have an 8800gt, and i can max crysis for the most part, so if you want to save a 100$ get a 8800gt, otherwise get an 4850 or a 4870, although i am a diehard nvidea person, i have to admit the 4850 and 4870 are both quite nice cards, but ati drivers can be bothersome...

HD4870 > 8800 GT > HD3870

Go for the HD4870, if you have the money. Just make sure your PSU has two 6-pin PCIe connectors.

get a hd4850 . it works only 450w psu and $100 cheaper than 4870 , runs all games on high with great fps . i even play crysis now , i get all the fun while playin it. Forget about the other crappy cards.

GET A HD4850 only $170 on tigerdirect.

Okay, many thanks for the quick replies. I think I'm going to go with the 8800GT, because it's the same price as the HD3870 (£90) whereas the HD4870 is £160.

Thanks a lot!

The 4850 is only 20 more than the 8800GT, how much better is it?

If the price is justified, I'll get that one instead.

HD4850 is almost equal to 8800GTX Ultra... see this...

8800GTX Ultra > 8800GT about 10-20%... see this...

I have a hd 4850 and it's a great card, it runs all games smoother than all other cards except crysis.

crysis prefer nvidia cards and intel cpu's better than ati-am.

If u don't play crysis , just get 4850. u can give it try , if u don't like it , return anytime. i returned my hd3650 1gb ddr2 , paid alittle extra for 4850 , got it.

It will be enough for me for years. What kinda psu do u have?

450 watt psu minimum requirement to run it. check ati - amd site for certified psu matter fact get a new psu , they are cheap pn newegg.com

i have an 8800 gts which works good.. i can run crysis in dx10 mode on medium settings... the 8800 gt could probably do the same and it is cheap. so go with the 8800 gt.

Aldouz

Look at the drivers they used for the hd4850... 8.22 beta.

hd4850 is faster than 8800gtx, and ultra isn't much faster than gtx.

i used to love ati , i had always nvidia gpu. Ati is getting better everyday, they are together with amd now. my early gpu was a x1300 , i loved it , it worked for me. I like ati now.

It's your choice , all the cards are almost the same , u wouldn't see any difference while u r playing a game. only the benchmarks show u that one is faster than other.

and i only have a Nvidia mobo so theres no chance of Crossfire and i only got 2x 6pin

also IF i REALLY wanted to i could get a 2x molex to 6pin adapter and put in another 9800GT (probs wont happen tho)
