A recent Swedish test shows that the expensive cables DOES give a very slight increase in image quality, but I find it somewhat unlikely. The difference was abysmal and only when you looked between two tv's at very close range.

What you DO pay for is build-quality and not imagequality. Imo :)

i think i read that...was that the report where the results basically said trust us there is a difference but they did not go into any detail on how they came about to that solution...they just said "trust us it makes a difference"...sounded like a load of crap to me...

well when i hooked up my HD DVR cable box the thing wouldnt always load the picture and would be glitchy with the cheap 25 dollar wal mart HDMI cable but when i switched that one with the expensive fancy ps3 one i had it worked fine but the ps3 then worked fine with the cheap 25 dollar cable. so ya i think there is some difference no idea what it is or what caused that but ya. but hey if theres a 5 dollar one give it a shot

that swedish story is BS there is no difference unless your buying a really long cable and even then F Monster Cables. My $2 hdmi cable I found in a bin at Goodwill works just the same as the $40 cable my friend got rippedoff buying from best buy.

HDMI is a digital signal, if it works, it works, if it doesn't, it doesn't. There is no in-between with digital signals.

The only thing you might be paying more for is build quality, but even still, if your cable is going to sit behind your TV and collect dust, why buy more expensive cables? Build quality only matters if you're going to be physically moving the cable around a lot.

You got a bad cable. Buy another one. doesn't have to be expensive(Monoprice will cost less than your "cheap $25 Wal-Mart one," but will probably of better quality and hence work.

I'm pretty sure you pay for "warranty" of sorts. I believe that Sony and MS, like apple with its ipod, state to only use "official" branded cables. Obviously this is to rip you off, but it also guarantees that the cable is going to fit flush with the device--and if it causes wear to the console, you're covered. Other ripoff cables tend to offer the same deal. You would also be surprised that the heads of different cables can vary slightly--why do you think the first thing on an ipod to malfunction is usually the headphone jack?

If you're looking for a good quality high-end cable that is cheaper than monster but still just as good I'd look into Acoustic Research. All my cables are AR, however, when it comes to a good power strip that'll protect all of your expensive goodies you can't beat Monster.

I beg to differ. You don't need Monster power protection. If you want to spend a ton of money, buy Furman, but really there are many very good $100 surge suppressors that will protect your equipment just as good.

Monoprice for cables, ****** for surge protectors - they're on sale quite often and they're of good quality in my experience. Monster if you hate your money and want to get rid of it as fast as possible.

that may be the case, but i've had issues in the past with cheap cables. I don't say buy the extremely overpriced ones, but its good to actually look at what you are buying. When I picked up a Denon reciever awhile back, they cut me some hdmi cables for pretty cheap--they didnt fit in the tv all that great. What's an extra 20 bucks to protect a near $3000 plasma--a purchase you are going to make once?

High Price doesn't necessarily mean high quality. Low price doesn't necessarily mean low quality. Monoprice has very good quality HDMI cables at a good value price as does BlueJeans cables among others. I'd put my 22 AWG HDMI Monoprice cable against any cable that Best Buy sells at over 5x the cost.
