Using a Monoprice cable for my PS3. My dad is using one from there too for his HD-DVD player. I'm also using a free one that came with my HD-DVD player. So the free one that comes with an Elite 360 is fine (does it come with one?) And spending even $300 on an HDMI cable will have to picture difference compared to a $6 cable from Monoprice.TimothyB
Yes the Xbox 360 Elite does come with a HDMI cable...I'm going to get an elite soon and I did some research...Thanx for the information...I am getting a HD TV soon and I need a cheap HDMI cable...:).
Thanks for the help, but I have one more question(sorry) why are there so many types of hdmi cables on monoprice (and other places), and which ones are right for the ps3 and 360?solidsnake2050
The main difference with HDMI cables are the wire gauge. The thicker it is the more bandwidth it can handle and distance (the smaller the gauge rating the thicker it is). So a thicker 6 foot cable, like the premium $15 one at monoprice would better support 1.3 HDMI standards. While the $6 one, still works perfectly with 1080p, just not sure what would happen if you tried deep color and 7.1 Dolby True HD at the same time.
Other differences are build quality. If you plan to remove the cable a lot to take to friends or another tv, then better construction would help. That doesn't mean Monster cables. If you paid $100 for one of theirs, that really doesn't have the best build quality, you could of just bought 20 $5 cables and left one in your travel PS3 bag, one at each tv, etc. And sometimes the thicker premium monoprice cable that really isn't needed has such a thick cable it's harder to bend and manage.
For like 50 foot runs, thicker gauge is better, but even at that distance with the most expensive cables you may need an equalizer to keep the signal from degrading, especially at 100 feet.
What happens when you have a bad hdmi cable? Well, the signs area basically white speckles in the picture or practically no picture at all.
