Headphone FAQ

Hey guys, I really need a new headset. I'm currently "rocking" this headset, which I've had for about a year. It has done what it's supposed to do, but it frankly sucks. My budget is $150, but I really don't want to spend that much.

With that being said, the only headset I'm really considering at $150 is the Sennheiser PC 350, but I would prefer to spend a bit less (and hopefully retain the same or near quality). Suggestions? Ideally my realistic budget is like $100 - $125, but if there is nothing in that range (in terms of comparable quality to the Sennheiser headset), I guess I'll have to take the plunge.

Does not have to be wireless, although that'd be nice.

Edit - I think I may just go with a good pair of headphones and get a clip-on microphone. That way I can actually use the headphones for my MP3 player if I wanted, too.

Looking for some durable headphones that can be tossed a bit and still work fine with average sound quality. My optimal price is $70-$80, but if I have to spend $100 that is fine. Also, no Turtlebeaches. I'm on my second pair of the Earforce X11's and everyday they get worse, only one headphone works now and that one is hanging by threads.RAGEofSTUNTS

Headphones or headset? I recommend headphone + external mic. My HD555s sound great if you have a stereo or a decent soundcard powering them. They don't have much bass though, so you'd have to adjust your EQ a bit. I believe they're discontinued in favor of 558s, so you might be able to find some cheap. Refurbs are great as well. They're also open-back so they leak sound.

Could take a look at Audio-Technica's offerings for the same price range. Can't go wrong with any of them.

As said above, HD 555 are discontinued so should probably be removed from the thread. I can't get any in the UK, maybe it's different in USA but i think they should be replaced in this sticky. HD 558 that replaced them are more expensive though.

Hello guys , will i notice a big difference upgrading from a G35 to a sennheiser HD 555 ? is the HD555 a good investment now ? btw that's the only sennheiser i could find where i live .

I've been looking for some good headphones that don't cost a ton since the right speaker on my old sony mdr-cd180s went out need a bit more in depth recommendations. I got the Koss UR-20s that were recommended on here but don't like the audio quality on them so I'm returning them. I really wish I could just get another pair of my old headphones but they are no longer being made and aren't stocked by anybody so I'd like to try and find something that has a similar or better sound and comfortability for a low price.

After asking around about the Sennheiser HD 202's and 203's, I found the Superlux HD668B's on Headphone, and they seem to be very good (looking at the reviews). Anyone have any feedback on them since they're $50 and I'd be waiting 2-4 weeks for them, or anything similar?

I'm located in Alberta, I recently checked out a Best Buy but kind of got cut short looking at headphones due to sales-people swarming me (and odly enough telling me to look online and elsewhere for headphones) Red Deer to be more precise. I'm thinking of going to a music store to see if they have any decent headphones.Jynxzor

Says they carry Stanton, Behringer, AKG, Sennheiser, and Pioneer headphones. They might have something. An AKG K240 is a gem around $100 USD.

Avoid HMV, they look overpriced. Visions Electronics looks like it might have a decent selection; I see Audio-Technica, Shure, Sennheiser in their lineup, and it looks like you have one locally:

well its not really $180 more like $100 with free shipping. and i havent pick it up yet(still looking around). I know headphones.com will ship hear but thats another $40 and thats without the VAT. I could always pick up the hd 448 but the cable is alittle long to me I think, and their is probably no easy to make it smaller or replace it with another cable. well tbh, i am interested in the hd 439 and that is similar to the 438,but like i said the problem is the shipping and vat.

Well let's talk for a minute, then. What are you using these headphones for, exactly? Gaming, movies, music, traveling, exercise (I'm guessing no to the latter)? For example, I have two pair of headphones, one for gaming, and one for music on-the-go. I rarely listen to music unless I'm doing something else, so I almost always listen on home speakers rather than headphones. So I bought a gaming headphone rather than a high-end headphone.

I just want to make sure you're getting the best headphones for your dollar and for whatever purpose for which you intend to use them.

For example, I have two pair of headphones, one for gaming, and one for music on-the-go. I rarely listen to music unless I'm doing something else, so I almost always listen on home speakers rather than headphones. So I bought a gaming headphone rather than a high-end headphone.

I just want to make sure you're getting the best headphones for your dollar and for whatever purpose for which you intend to use them.

just some cheap earbuds when I go to the gym or outside in general. at home I use the onboard speakers from my laptop but the sound quality isnt so good. i want to use this the headphones for music,gaming,and youtube

lol grade a fakes of dr dre beats but i dont want to buy them since the sound quality isnt so good.i have look but i couldnt find any the brands i heard of. well there is one place that carries sennheiser but the dont have them in stock atm and im not sure if they will carry them again) and i dont think im able to try them on since they are in the original package
