Hi guys,

I know they're abit different, but which is better? Both have received pretty good reviews, but which one is the better game?

Thanks.

Civ. Without a doubt, Civ. Anno has good gameplay and good graphics, but very few missions/campaigns/etc. I took me less than a week to finish all of them (including what was available with DLCs). They have these sort of limited-time missions available that are supposed to change "often" but over the course of a month I didn't see it change once. Fun while it lasted, but over and done with way too quickly. Civ on the other hand, has many many scenarios to play (especially with the DLCs) and even the basic single player missions can be customized 100 different ways. I've had it since a week after it came out and I still play it often.

Depends, do you like real time or turn based? Both are very addictive, have good trading systems, although Civ 5 deals better with diplomacy and territorial expansion.

I'm actually pretty new to the genre... Thought I'd try something different. Which has the higher learning curve?

Not really a simple answer to that. Both have beginner levels with suggestions and helpers to get you started. Both are pretty bleeping easy in the beginning. With Anno, the missions get progressively harder (I'm referring to the campaign) and you can't adjust it to make it easier or harder. Atleast, I don't think you can. With Civ, you can choose your difficulty level. So in a sense, you could make the learning curve as steep or as gradual as you want. If you haven't played many strategy games like these, you are probably better off starting with turn-based ones. It gives you a chance to work out your strategies and make decisions without being under the gun.

Played plenty of Anno, but just the demo for Civ, so Ill lean towards Anno on this one.

Make a new thread once Ive bought Civ, so I can give a better opinion. :P

They're both fantastic, can't choose one, but since you already got Civ 5, there's an expansion coming soon and be sure to get all the DLCs on a sale, they add a lot of factions through it.

Do yourself a favour and use the ingame help extensively. There's a lot of depth to Civ 5 ;)

Few pointers:

1: Don't mindlessly expand your empire. New cities should be built to gain resources, you don't have or to establish borders (cut off a neighbor from settling.

2: don't improve every single tile in your cities. Citizens can only work up to 3 tiles away from your city, which forms a hexagonal around it.

3: Luxury resources can be acquirced even if they're further than 3 tiles away. You get the resource but can't use the field for production/gold/food/etc.

4: Maintain a healthy military even if you don't intend to indulge in warfare. Your neighbours may think you weak and and decide to destroy you.
