I've been wanting to get into pc gaming for a while , and now that i have about $1600 to spare, i'm thinking of building my own rig, but i need help as i am a noob and don't know anything about compatibility and this will be the first pc i ever build . I've decided i want to go with the i7 2600k and the Gtx 580 so can you please recommend me the other components and keep it all at about $1600 excluding OS and monitor, keeping in mind i will go sli in the future .

Thanks in advance .

I would have to reccomend the i5 2500k over the i7. The gaming difference is pretty much not there. With preformance nearly being the same.

Knock off one of those GTX 580's, the CPU cooler and the OS and you will be close to your budget.

With the setup I mentioned you can easily run another GTX 580 sometime down the road. If you want to go a little cheaper I can make a new build for you.

Please do .... also ... isn't the 1000W psu a bit too much ? Also I've read somewhere that the ram has to be 1.5v to be compatible with the 2600K .

I like the rig posted above. I'd choose an EVGA card over PNY and go with a cheaper power supply. Nothing wrong with Corsair but it does seem to be a bit much for what you get. I'd recommend this Kingwin instead.

This should run fine. You can never have too much PSU.

If you want to go SLI GTX 580 a 1000 watt psu will cover you all the way if you want to overclock.

CPU Combo

CPU Cooler

DVD Drive

Cooler Master Storm Sniper case

WD Black 1TB

EVGA GTX 570 x2

PSU (10% off code)

RAM

Comes out to around 1700ish though.

EDIT: Or go with 2 of Galaxy's GTX 570s for the 2 $30 rebates.

I honestly don't know. GIGABYTE makes solid motherboards but MSI is no weakling either. Mine was part of a combo. If your serious about overclocking the GIGABYTE would be best. Also included a CPU cooler since stock ones are pretty bad. Plus my build included 2 570s.

Kingwin makes their own I believe which I why I went for them. Wanted a 1000w Corsair but that was asking for just too much. Was gonna get the 80 Plus Gold 1000w Kingwin but the MACH-1 was on sale for like 120ish around holidays. Nothing at all wrong with those brands, especially Corsair.

The one I posted has support for 16x 16x sli. I'm not sure the MSI one has that feature. You might notice a difference with two GTX 580's.

Get the 570 instead of the 580. Much more practical. SLI 570 and you're good for a long time.

I was pretty much thinking this. Only a bit more and a lot more performance. You really only need one though. But if you need high resolution, AA, and 50+ FPS in every game out there then the SLI 570 is worth it.
