Dont upgrade from a dual core to another dual core which is pointless. If your tight on funds a Phenom 2 X4 or Bulldozer FX 4100 will fit the bill and will do better with multithreaded games.

if the 2500k is socket compatible it would be foolish to get anything else.

any i5 is better then the i3 series, but remember when upgrading you cant just stick an i3/5 or what ever into a socket 775 based motherboard. Do you have a socket 11551156/1366 etc? because if you dont you will have to buy a motherboard and different memory to go along with a cpu upgrade

You can't. Well, you could buy an old quadcore, but they are not worth the price now.

core 2 quad will dramatically imoprove preformance. the best core to quads belong to the q9500 series (9500, 9550) though you can game jsut fine on lesser ones. the core 2 quads i qould ideally try to get is a q6600, q6700 (if you overclock) or a q8300 or higher numbered cpu if you want to be stock.

I would recommend just waiting till you can afford a new motherboard ($130ish) and a core i5 CPU. Patience is a virtue that is well rewarded. If you buy a core 2 quad now it will very quickly not be able to handle the newest games and you'll have to rebuy a new CPU all over again very shortly.

If even i can able to play them in minimum i dnt have any problem :) . Right know even with only 2 gb ram and dualcore 2.50 processor i am doing fine and new games like max payne 3 with directx 11 running smooth in 1280x720 which is way too fine for me so i dont think upcoming games with upgrade to core to quad and more ram will be any problem for me to run in medium . Sorry for my bad english by the way :(
