There's no way in hell you need a 640MB 8800GTS with that monitor, get the 320MB version. You could also get a 160GB HDD fora round $50, and could go with a cheaper processor. You could also go with a AMD CPU/Mobo, but I doubt you want to do that.

Save $50 and get the CPU from here... http://www.ncixus.com/products/25298/BX80557E6750/Intel/

Newegg seems to think Intel's price cuts are specifically to increase their profit margin.

You could not buy a new keyboard, mouse, and montor. Meaning, just reuse the ones you've got.

Well, if you really want to cut more, you could save a bit on a slightly lower end monitor like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001087

($50 less after rebates)

Also, just noticed you don't seem to have a case listed... Are you using your old one?

well first of all, there is no need for you to get such an expensive keyboard. my uncle has the eclipse II and the only advantage it has is the lights against my generic dell keyboard. gaming keyboards don't make you perform better in games. so drop down to a regular $15 keyboard and save around $30. then, drop down your RAM to some nice g.skill ram for around $20 in savings. then, drop down your monitor to that hanns.g one we were talking about because it will make ur card last longer and its not gonna make games look noticeably worse than 1680x1050. so dropping down the monitor is around $90 in savings. so lets see, you just saved $140! don't go over your budget by upgrading to things that are pointless and gimmicky and won't help ur gaming at all. *cough* keyboard *cough*. there are always some other things you can save on but ur gonna have to look around for that. ur welcome. :)

but by the way is this RAM slower than this Ram? And should I try and get the balistix for $65 before the mail-in rebate expires after today? And do the balistix work with the P35 DS3R? thanks

You'll really only notice the difference if you're overclocking.

well until 2marro the balistix have a $45 mail-in rebate so there cheaper and faster, my question is will they work in the

P35 DS3R mobo? and will they accept the mail-in rebate if I buy them on the last valid day of the rebate?

i didn't bother to click your ram links but the ballistix memory is faster than most memory but there is a black g.skill module and a white g.skill module with 4-4-3-5 that is faster than the ballistix. i wouldn't try to buy it on the last day of the rebate because i did that once with a micro-sd card and i never got the money back. also, i don't know how reliable crucial's rebate group is because i ordered my crucial modules on june 11th i think and it should only take 4-6 weeks but i still havent gotten my 45 dollars back from them. i did however use a logitech speaker rebate on june 23rd and i got the money back in 2 weeks. RAM rebates aren't always reliable from what i hear. the memory will work with the motherboard but you have to set the CAS timings manually or else it won't work. and if you don't know how to do that i wouldn't bother. if the other link you posted were the white g.skills, then yes those are faster, but won't overclock as high. since u aren't overclocking, you might wanna pick other memory, but with lower timings.

btw, i looked at ur links and the a-data will be the same exact speed as the crucial ballistix but will not overclock as high, however, the a-data ram is more compatible with the motherboard and u wont have to manually set timings. get the a-data if you want an easier time booting up. get the crucial if you wanna overclock to high speeds.

I don't know why people answer RAM questions if they don't know how RAM works... The Crucial Ballistix are faster than the A-Data... Period... End of sentence! It doesn't matter if you overclock or not! They are both rated to run at the same frequency, but the Crucial RAM has lower latency (that is how many clock cycles it takes to do certain things). The most important one is Column Address Strobe (CAS) latency (first number in the 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-18.), which is how many clock cycles it takes to retrieve data from a specific column in memory. This is the function that is performed most often.

So when running at 800MHz, it will take 4 clock cycles on the Crucial or 5 clock cycles on the A-Data. This is not a huge difference considering all the other things that happen while your computer is running, but it results in a couple of extra FPS when gaming. Hey, every little bit helps right?

As for the fact that the Crucial also overclocks higher, yeah that is true too, but it has nothing to do with the fact that is has different timings /latency.

Don't go with the DDR400 RAM that won't fit. I would go with the Crucial Balistix aboveand hope for the rebate... or you could go with this OCZ which has enhanced cooling:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227231
$85.99 after $40 rebate (I have received rebates from OCZ in the past).

Before you start flaming people you should read my post carefully. Maybe I worded it wrong, but w/e. I never once said the ballistix will overclock higher because of their latencies. Its because of their micron D9 chips, but I didn't mention that in my previous posts because it would have been irrelevant. Also, the A-DATA modules automatically configure to 4-4-4-12 on most boards, including the P35-DS3R. So it would be exactly the same speed as the Ballistix modules at default settings. I recommended him the white g.skill modules, the ones with 4-4-3-5 timings because they are faster than the ballistix modules and are known to be compatible with the p35-ds3r board. lower latencies will also benefit him by giving him slightly faster speed, although he might not notice it cuz the difference is so small. I know exactly how RAM works, but I'm trying to keep it simple because this is the OPs first time building a PC and he doesn't know as much as either of us about these things. there ya go. BTW, crucial's rebates arent reliable. Neither are Patriots. I would go with Corsair XMS2 modules (black and purple ones) or OCZ platinum revision 2 modules. But try to avoid mail in rebates if possible.

Sorry for the flames, they were not directed at you specifically.Your post said

the a-data will be the same exact speed as the crucial ballistix SLI_Yoshi

which is not the case...

and I have seen posts all over that say RAM with lower latencies will only improve performance if you are overclocking. That is what I was referring to... also why I didn't quote a specific message earlier.
