Hey guys im getting a Mac because Im sick of my PC. Im wondering if Macs actually have no virues? And if u downlaod stuff off limewire do u get spyware. And do macs even get spyware, like those little 888poker.com popups? And im going to be using my mac for making music videos, making songs (funny little parody raps ), listening to music for the ipod im getting, and downloading movies. So are these specs good enough?

2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
250GB Serial ATA Drive
ATI Radeon X1600/128MB VRAM
SuperDrive 8X (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Apple Keyboard & Mighty Mouse + Mac OS X (US English)
20-inch widescreen LCD
AirPort Extreme
Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

So for what im using it for is that good enough? Thanks.

Thats more than enough, but you might want a bigger hard drive (if available) because videos can take up a lot of room.

I'd step up the graphics card to the 256MB version, since you're driving a fairly big monitor. Adding Final Cut might also be a good idea. I also agree that a bigger hard drive would be nice, but given that there's only a 500GB option, you should be just fine with 250GB. Everything else looks good though, and should be perfect for what you're doing.

u could do all those things on a pc. downloading from limewire on ur mac would give u viruses. the files on limewire are viral in general, it doesnt decide to only attack macs. the only reason macs dnt get viruses is because no one cares to infect them. if u get pc viruses, buy an anti virus software. just dnt get ripped off and buy a crApple iSuck. lol :-P

The infected files on Limewire will not, for the most part, be able to infect a Mac since the viruses are all set up for Windows - basically, your logic makes no sense.

There are viruses for Mac's, although there are only a handful (as people who make viruses target PC's because there are so many more than Mac's). It's highly unlikely your Mac will get infected.

Yeah. Do you still need anti-virus software for Macs though ?

Not really. Most of the "antivirus" applications I have seen that are made to run on Mac OS are generally only going to scan for Windows files at the most, because usually within a few days of one that *can* work, Apple will have a patch/update available that will plug whatever hole the reported virus would attempt to exploit. And 90% of "OS X viruses" I have seen only work if you're logged in as root. Considering you don't even need to be running root to update/install drivers in OS X, common sense would dictate that you think twice before running ANYTHING that suddenly asks you to "login as root". Another big benefit with Mac OS is that absolutely no spyware will even execute on the OS. there are keyloggers, but those are part of commercial programs sold to businesses and schools to make sure their users aren't going to porn sites on company/class time.

When it come to viruses, a Mac is the safest way to go. After I make my PC later this year, I'll invest in an iMac G5 (probably the 24 inch) to run graphics applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, 3ds Max, Lightwave, Maya, Cinema4D, etc.

20" iMac? You should be fine with that, though I would highly recommend getting more storage space in the thing if you can afford it. There is no such thing as "too much space" when it comes to video editing, and having extra storage space for temporary files while encoding is a significant benefit to having the higher space. I would also consider buying Final Cut for the Mac as well at the least, if only so that you can start learning with a professional grade program. iMovie is great for new users as well, but you'll be glad once you've spent time and got past the initial learning curve(s) of Final Cut with how much better it is than a good 90% of the video editing software that is available on Windows. I would also recommend that you ditch the Mighty Mouse and get a better mouse for the Mac. The Mighty Mouse is fine for most people, but it seems in the goal of trying to not have a visible second mouse button, Jobs (and in turn, Apple) made a very finicky mouse with the MM. The wireless one is even worse. Some people like it, but more often than not, it gets very difficult to try to hit the right side of the thing with enough pressure to register as a right-click. And it ONLY works if you're not touching the left side at all. For this reason, it would save a lot of headaches to simply buy a separate mouse when you get your iMac. Currently, I don't know of any Apple encoding apps that support GPU-assisted encoding, so I don't think going to a 256MB X1600 would make a big difference there. Personally, I would upgrade that anyway because it will at least give you something more if you do get the itch to grab some Mac-native games or run Boot Camp and start running some Windows games on the iMac. The other suggestion I would have had was to try going to the 24" iMac if possible (with a 7600GT), but if that is too much for your budget, then the model you listed here should be more than fine.

The newer intel iMacs perform significantly better than the G5-based Macs. And unless there is a specific PPC-based application that you want to run, it's hard to think of a reason why you'd want the G5 iMac as opposed to the new C2D-based iMac. And I also agree... Photoshop is one application that has basically been made for the Mac since 1.0. Some benches may have the Windows version running *certain things* faster than the Mac build, but the Mac builds of Photoshop are significantly smoother, and certainly aren't as crash and aggravation-prone as the Windows versions.

My bad. You are right, I meant to refer to the Core 2 Duo iMac, not G5. Don't know what I was thinking.
