Hi all, I would like to build a cool pc from scratch and would like some advice/tips on what parts to get. Last pc I built was years ago now and I'm out of touch with everything that's available these days, it's so overwhelming! I already have a brand new Corsair 750W psu and a Sapphire Radeon 3850 x2 graphics card, but apart from that anything else goes. My budget is around $1000 Regards

Hey thanks so much. I already have the OS so I'm saving a bit of money there so I'll put that towards another HDD or Blu Ray player. Regards.

no get a radeon HD 4890 as it is much faster than your 3850 X2. The 3850 X2 pretty much equals the 9800 GTX in terms of performance, however the 4890 can match the 275 GTX.

I'd say let her keep her/him 3850 graphics card, and when the new video cards come out, buy one of those. Because if what one of the posters above said is true ( that it is about the same performace as a 9800gt, then thats fine for now, beacuse those are cards are still doing good)

Ok here's a build i thought owns. CPU- I7 920 279.99$ at new egg, if you have a microcenter near you it's like 200$. Case - CM COSMOS Black 200$, if you want a cheaper case, CM 690 ( it owns ) 70$ Motherboard- EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - 300$ RAM - CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D - 190$, you could always get cheaper ram, this is just the award winning one. Optical - Regular DvD burner, get one from newegg for 20-25$. Total - 785$ -995$ 785, being if you have a microcenter, and you switched to a CM690. And you can always get ddr3 ram for abotu 100, putting you at 685$... That leaves you with about 300$ for the new HD5870 that comes out in a couple months.
