my steam account was hacked. I used a credit card to purchase one game. I can't remember if the credit card info was saved or not. Will the hacker be able to use my credit card to purchase steam games or other things or is the credit card safe please HELP!

Go on the steam site and contact steam support. You might have to cancel the credit card as well, asap.

No, and contact steam, we won't be able to help you here.

I am pretty sure if it is saved, it will only show you the last four digits. At worst, he can go out and buy more games on Steam but I dont think he can use the information to purchase outside of Steam.

not 100% sure, though

If by "hacked" you mean you gave your login information to someone?

I have also seen that it saves the information locally

or that you still have to put in the cc number it just saves adresses and stuff.

can anyone confirm these?

There is a way for you to get access back. In the small dialog box that pops up when you start steam, click on 'Retrieve A Lost Account'. They should reset the password and send a temp password to your email. Once it's reset, anyone who is logged into your account will be signed off automatically.

As with the issue of whether your credit card was used, once in Steam go to the upper left and click Steam>Settings. There should be a link to your account history in the window that pops up. See if there has been activity.

Wow really? The hacker must have changed and verified his email then. I think your best bet would be to contact steam and ask them to suspend your account or something. Also ask them if there was any credit card tied to your account, just to make sure.

I really hate it when people come to GameSpot about things like this. Seriously, contact Steam customer support. GameSpot isn't affiliated at all. Why would you even ask this here?

Yeah, well, quick responses from an unrelated gaming site usually don't lead to you being able to get your account back. You should contact Steam ASAP, check your bank account to see if any purchases have been made, etc. Common sense really.

My steam account was hacked and billed/compromised for 5 x100 euro from my mastercard on 5/11/2011 This is what steam answered Thank you for contacting Steam Support. The purchases were made on the account account frankdubbe88. The account was not hijacked and the purchases were all made from the same IP as this support ticket. The purchases were made by someone in your household. at least they should be able to tell me for what I was charged 5 x100 euro At least they should be ablefrankdubbe

As they said, someone bought things on steam from your account from the same IP. It's someone in the same household as you, be it family member, roommate etc. I assume that someone bought steam points to the steam wallet? There's no games that cost 100 euro each.

While you're calling Steam, use your LAN line and call your bank as well. Ask them to verify and double check every purchase with you. This requires a phone call from the bank to you, with your confirmation. Good luck.

If you call your bank soon enough you can cancel the charges. This is a last resort as Steam will most likelysuspend (possibly close)your account after a chargeback.
