Hey Guys, I will have enough money to buy my new PC in the coming months. I just wanted to know if all of my parts are compatible/the best ones for a good gaming rig. This, also I would try to stretch to 670, even if I have to make some minor changes, like getting 8 GB RAM.

Why do you say only 8GB of RAM?

Unless you're rendering or using VM's then 8Gb is fine for the next 3 years.

This, also I would try to stretch to 670, even if I have to make some minor changes, like getting 8 GB RAM.

I would also drop the sound card since they aren't really necessary right away as well as getting a standard optical drive instead of a blu ray drive. That alone saves her about $100 which could be used for the 670.

Think of it this way, those things mentioned above can be added later and are relatively inexpensive. Video cards are more expensive and having to replace those in a few years is much more.

Yes, I too had that in mind. After all a GPU is possibly the most important component if he is getting the PC for gaming.

Well usually it would be a Nvidia 670GTX or something similar and if you can afford one of them it is also worth looking at an AMD 7970

Would my current choice of graphics card do fine??? (EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Superclocked) I don't plan to be overclocking, at least not at the moment.

Yes, it will do fine. The point was to save some money on other components in order to get a better GPU, that will last longer.

What amount of watts should I need for my power supply??? I am looking at the Antec VP550P 550W or the Antec VP650P 650W power supply. Am I right? Do I need more power? Less power? Any suggestions that are good quality but don't have extreme costs? Also, any suggestions for a CPU fan? I'm not sure what to look for. By the way, I need to get all of my parts from PC Case Gear, some parts are not sold there. If you have a suggestion, it might not be there. Just a heads up. Thanks

Also, Is my case big/roomy enough to fit/hold all of my parts? Once I have fully figured out the new list of parts, I'll post it on this thread for your scrutiny :3

Thanks for the suggestion, I have picked the i5 3570K. Three questions. 1. Is the standard heatsink fan that comes with the processor good? Do I need any other one? 2. Is the Seasonic G-650 80Plus Gold 650W a good power supply? (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_972&products_id=21503) 3. Do I need any extra fans apart from the ones pre-built in my case? Thanks Again

1. It is fine if you don't plan to overclock.

2. Yes.

3. Nope.

Thank you so much for all of your help. So I won't need any more than a 650W power supply for now? And is it worth dropping one of the 2TB hard drives to swap with an SSD? If so, which one is good? How about the Intel 330 Series 120GB SSD? (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_1221&products_id=20049)

Which videocard did you decide to get? Either way, 650w is plenty enough for that setup. And congrats btw.. That's a very nice system...

Swap the HDD for an SSD, will speed the system up a lot, also worth just dropping the PSU to 550W is you want to save some money.

Is that Intel SSD a good choice? I don't want to spend much more than $100 on a SSD. What size would I need? 60GB or more?

128gb is the minimum to get tbh, 60 seems too small.

(http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_1221&products_id=20049) 2. If I get an SSD, should I upgrade to the Western Digital WD Green 3TB Hard Drive? I don't mind paying the extra cost. (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=17275) Once again, sorry for all of the questions but I just want my computer to be perfect. Thanks.

Ok, I am going to swap one of the 2TB Hard Drives with an SSD. Which of these do you think is better? Samsung 840 Series 120GB SSD Retail Box (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_909&products_id=22033) SanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive 120GB (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_1376&products_id=19790) And to make up for the loss, I am going to swap my other 2TB Hard Drive for a 3TB version of the same brand etc.

Remember what I said about the PSU though, honestly just get a 500W Modular one or something, 650W is overkill for 1 GPU, your full system draw with 1 GPU will likely never go over 400W.

I set out to make a gaming computer whichdidn't go over $2000. With all of the parts, a keyboard and mouse, and the OS, it brings me to about $1950. I am happy to pay the price for the extra RAM etc.

In that case going with a 670 would have been a better choice.

Getting the 670 would put me way over my limit. But I'm not buying the computer for a couple of months. When I have the money, I'll look again. The price will probably have gone down by then. I can reconsider a few parts. Thanks, GamerGal13579
