So i made the mistake of trying to download something from bitlord (never again) and as soon as it finished downloading i got a virus.

I tried going into my hard drive but a window popped up saying something like i needed to reboot to go into it or something.

I ran a full virus scan (using symantec) and it detected 2 viruses. One was like win32.rootkit or something like that and the other was like tool.infr! or something (sorry i don't remember the actual names).

It said the viruses were partially removed but i need to reboot the computer to get rid of them. So i did. When the computer started up a blue screen popped up saying symantec is trying to remove a virus and that the computer will boot once its done. After logging into windows a pop up from symantec appeared saying that it failed to register.

Today i started my computer up again and before logging into windows that blue screen came up again, saying that symantec is trying to remove a virus etc.

I downloaded malwarebytes, updated and ran a full scan. It detected a trojan which i deleted. But while malwarebytes was running symantec auto-detect popped up and showed something called "packed.generic.200" I chose to remove it. It was the second time that one came up.

I've done a live update of symantec and now i'm running a full scan again.

If viruses keep popping up i dont know what to do anymore.

Can anyone help me get rid of this crap for good?

Thanks in advance :)

Why i sometimes think anti-virus software is worthless, you're always better off just reformatting, good luck typing in personal information without being afraid of what might happen.

Seems you've got yourself in quite a predicament. First, I'd advise you to uninstall that useless antivirus-wannabe Norton. Then, download Avast! Home Edition. Run a full scan - it'll take maybe 5-6 hours, but in the end, it will destroy many viruses.

If that doesn't work - download HijackThis!, get yourself a log, then go to TweakXP.com (or TweakVista.com), and post that log there. Experts will come and identify what kind of mess you've got yourself into.

And if THAT doesn't work - well, there's always the fail-safe last resort - reformat the computer completely.

well im using bitdefender and it did protect me from many virus attacks...but somehow i think that the viruses are made by the antivirus companies themselves...

EDIT:And yes i agree with the other poster...norton is useless...

did you run your virus scan on safe mode? normally you can get rid of them once if you just run your anti virus software once in safe mode

How do i run it in safe mode?

Sigh_han
it should say in your motherboard manual, but as far as i'm aware you usually have to hold down the F8 key during the hard drive detection screen and before it picks up your os(or oses) you will be givin several options safe mode is one of them.
