Hi people,I'm thinking of buying myself a gaming laptop. Thing is I'm probably the biggest noob when it comes to PC gaming in general....
So I need some advise:

My friend recommended a Alienware M11X
What do you guys think ? Could this play Shogun 2 Total War ? (really wanna buy this game)

Alienware M11xIntel® Core™ i5 520UM (3M Cache, 1.06 GHz)
Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-bits
29.5cm (11.6") WideHD 1366x768 (720p) LCD
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M
4.096 MB 800 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2 x 2.048]
250 GB (7.200 rpm)

As I said; huge noob here :)
Be gentle....

Thanks

a gaming laptop is a piece of jargon.. like a gaming keyboard.. many of them are just LED keyboards or just regular keyboards witht he term laziy applied.. for example

the difference between this keyboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823114010&cm_re=razer-_-23-114-010-_-Product

and this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109148&cm_re=media_keyboard-_-23-109-148-_-Product

are that the media playback buttons are on a top corner in razers case and across the top in microsoft's case.. eyt the former gets labeled a "gaming keyboard"

yes alienwares are typically for gaming but its not like theres a be all end of of gaming laptops you can game jsut fine on non-gaming associated brands like lenovo or HP or MSI it all comes down to the specs of the machine. not who made it.

Those seem like nice laptops. I would check notebookreview.com marketplace. It's actually just users like people on this website selling their laptops. You can get a pretty top of the line laptop at a reasonable price. I would just do your research on what laptop you want. If you're going to be gaming you want a great gpu. High RAM isn't really too important but you want 4 gigs which will handle gaming. The cpu, I went for an core i7 but you're going to have to do your research on that also cause there are some nice alternatives to the core i7. If you push up your price to 1100 or 1200 you can get a great laptop off that place.

Ah yeah forgot to add some websites for you to check out gaming laptops.

Look at Xoticpc.com

www.gentechpc.com

www.powernotebooks.com

You can customize laptops to your preferences to the price you're willing to spend. Plus since these are resellers you can ask them to test your laptop before they ship it to you. They test for any laptops and fix it, if they can't they will just send you another model. Takes three days but its the best choice then getting your laptop only to have it not work and then having to send it back. Again, I would just do your research once you narrow down your choices. Also that notebookreview.com site has a forum dedicated to people who are looking for laptops, I would check those threads out too cause I'm sure they will give you some notebooks you haven't heard of at reasonable prices. Good luck with your search and hopefully you find what you want.

I just ordered HPs new dm6t quad edition. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=High+performance&series_name=dv6tqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/High_performance/dv6tqe_seriesThe specs are as follows:

i7 2.2 ghz quad core with turbo boost to 3.3 ghz mobility radeon 6770 8 gigs of ram 15.6" 1376*768 screen

The dv6t series was redesigned and now looks more like the envy so I think it looks awesome. In benchmarks, that processor almost doubles my desktop Phenom II X4 965 which is insane.

The computer was 1200 with tax. If you got the 2.0 Ghz version of the processor and 6 gigs of ram, it would be 1000. I got a slight discount because I'm a student, and I also removed microsoft office since I get it for free at school, but for the insane specs, this laptop is priced very well. I'm thinking about getting rid of my desktop because I don't play too many PC games and I don't care about maxing Crysis.

From http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6570M.41479.0.html

"The AMD Radeon HD 6570M (or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570) is a renamed version of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, 5750, or 5770 with support for GDDR5. "
