Coincidentally or not, just after a few reviews of AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 popped up on the interweb, a fresh batch of pictures of Nvidia's upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 have been put up. The Big Mac of G92 chips, the GeForce 9800 GX2 is the new dual-GPU card which is prepared for a release later this quarter, in late February if everything goes to plan. The card's clocks are still unknown but a good 'guess' would see it have a 256-bit memory interface and 1GB of GDDR3 memory. As you can see in the pictures below the card needs extra power from two connectors, one 6-pin and one 8-pin, and it has one SLI connector which could and should mean the return of Quad-SLI. Now, let's contemplate.

Why does it have an optical connection? I though that an optical cable can only transfer sound, so could that mean the 9800GX2 has a built in sound chip or something?

Well I'm assuming that it accepts a direct connection from your soundcard (or something along those lines), so that it can provide sound in the HDMI cable, and then they decided to provide optical sound out as well.

I'm just guessing though.

probably so if you dont have a sound card you just put in that and then put in an hdmi cable. pretty cool if true.

Maybe it's too soon to ask this question, but maybe any of you has an idea whether if this card will perform better than 2x 8800 GTS G92 SLI or not?

Mmm...Jill Sandwich--*ahem*

I don't like that cooling solution. ~215w of heat isn't being expelled out of the case, but leaks from the sides of the card inside the case.

I would much rather see the card drop some of those display connections in favour of a vent for the HSF system.
